Facts about Sophie and Sylvia

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Black (All)
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Unknown
  • ID#: 6619364
  • Hair: Short
These two  have been with us since July 2012 at about 5 weeks old.  They came in separately.  Initially Sophie came with her brother Spenser, a sweet little round faced orange tabby. Sophie & Spenser were brought to the Bellwood police department by one of their Officers.  The first time I saw them, Sophie was all 4 paws on the grate.  Spenser had his front 2 on the grate as his back 2 dangled out of the grate openings, paralyzed.   Spenser died at the vet due to complications of spinal cord injury the next day.  Sophie acted as his legs.  He would lay on her and she'd move them from place to place.   After Spenser died, I put him in the carrier with Sophie.  For the next hour, Sofie lay cuddled close,  with her arm around him for an hour.  when she came to the front of the carrier, I took her out. It was sad and beautiful experience.    Next day, sophie arrived at Bellwood pD,  Due to size and condition, we knew they were siblings.  Sophie & Sylva have been together since.
They've grown into happy healthy bonded siblings that have great personalities.  They're very loving, feisty and gorgeous.  Watching them cuddle and play is pure Zen.

About CatVando TNR Corp

About Our Rescue Group...

Our primary mission is to prevent kittens through a Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program. However, sometimes we get Trap Neuter Adoption (TNA’s). When shelters are full, we foster, socialize and vet the kittens. This part of our program also involves local youths in the care of kittens in addition to our TNR efforts.

While in our system, kittens are fed a good quality Grain-Free Kibble and care is taken to assure their long and healthy life to the extent possible. We supplement for specific issues i.e. Pro-biotics, EFA's, immune boosters and sometimes digestive enzymes.. Many are exposed to dogs and are comfortable with them. They’ve been exposed to many wonderful volunteers of all ages.

When possible we capture the mama with the litter to assure their fuller development. Many times we keep them together for 9-12 weeks. Our adoption fee covers spay neuter surgery, FVRCP & Rabies vaccinations, parasite, ear mite & flea treatment when necessary, and a micro chip. And some of them have a small ear tip—just a reminder that you’ve given a cat a home that could have otherwise had to fend for itself, on the streets.

Our adopted cats and kittens are welcome back for the duration of their life in the event the adoption doesn’t work out, or if it becomes impossible for you to keep the cat. We’re always available for consultation about behavior, health, or referrals to assistance beyond our scope.

Our Adoption Process...

1. Fill out an application

2. Face to face Interview, and meet with the cat/kitten

Part of our adoption process requires observing all family members interaction, especially children.

We always adopt bonded pairs, but single cats are sometimes available. Adoption fees vary, but are usually $25 - $75 for a single cat, and $125 for a bonded pair.

Depending on the situation, we may also need to carry out a home visit, and help with transportation and introduction of the cat to it's new surroundings.

Follow-ups are part of the normal process.
