My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dawn is a wonderful, 6 or 7 year old female Beagle who suddenly found herself at a Houston area shelter. The owners said they could not afford to keep her, but all she knew was that she was abandoned by the people she counted on. She is a shy, sensitive beagle, so she was totally devastated. Thankfully the shelter called us and we were able to rescue her!

Her beautiful fur is tri colored with many adorable brown "freckles," and her soulful brown eyes are accented with the typical "beagle eyeliner." She is a little chunky at 28 pounds on a 14 inch frame, but we are working on helping her to shed a few pounds. Meanwhile, she makes for a comfortable pillow to cuddle with! In fact, Dawn loves to snuggle up beside her humans if invited. She is very polite, and waits to be asked before getting on the sofa beside you.

Despite her name, Dawn likes to sleep in. She sleeps through the night on a dog bed or in a dog crate (or would be happy to share your bed if allowed) and waits until you tell her it is time to wake up. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, but would be fine as an only dog because she is especially happy to spend time with the humans.

Dawn does not inhale her food like a typical beagle, so needs to have a quiet place to eat if there are other dogs in the house, otherwise they will take advantage of her. Dawn has great house manners. She has learned to use the dog door but really prefers to have a human accompany her outside. Going on a leash would be her first choice. She is a quiet girl who rarely barks, so would probably do well in an apartment, especially since she likes walking on leash!

Dawn enjoys being put on your lap, getting belly rubs and all the cuddling that you can provide. This sweet, loving girl will make someone a wonderful companion. Fill out an application today to make this sweetie a part of your family!
