My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boshka was born in 2009 and he is a bilingual Boxer! He understands English and Russian and will sit, stay, go down, fetch, balance things on his huge head and is learning to roll over. If you know Boxers, he has a true Boxer personality.

Boshka is an extraordinary dog - obedient, smart, handsome and an affectionate gentleman. He loves to give hugs and the occasional kiss when asked. He loves to play football, baseball and frisbee and pretend he is not a giant dog and will try to sit in your lap.

He also loves being outside but he has a prey drive so he will never be an off-leash dog because he will 100% run off chasing birds and such. We are working on "heal" to help him with this. He would not be great in a home that has cats because he will constantly chase them too. He is good with other dogs but he can be very overwhelming and does not know his strength so it would be best to be an only dog household to give everyone a break from playtimes.

We really appreciate your wanting to give a shelter animal a home and encourage you to search for just the right pet.

FOR APPLICATION, please visit http://humanesocietyny.org/adoptions/ and download then email it to sandra.hsny@verizon.net, fax it to (212) 752-2803 or bring it in to the adoption center.

The Humane Society is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We offer FREE Vet care for the first 3 weeks after adoption. We also have a great adoption matchmaker who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. Please feel free to submit your application!

If you'd like to sponsor this dog, please email sandra.hsny@verizon.net. You can give as much or as little as you like. Your donation is tax deductible. Thank you and our furry ones say thank you.

Each and every animal here is very special to us. We are dedicated to finding each one just the right home. So for some cats and dogs, that means a much longer stay - as sometimes they are not as outgoing, pretty or have as perfect manners as they could be. And because we don't "dispose" of them for this, our cost for keeping them healthy and becoming better companions is high.

Our one and only location is:
306 East 59th Street (between 1st & 2nd Avenue) in Manhattan.
Our adoption hours are 7 days a week, 10:30AM - 4:00PM.
