My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Ruby! I'm a mutt who is short and pudgy. I stand 18 inches tall, very short, and weigh around 55 lbs. Some people say I'm a pug/pibble mix, but who knows? There's one thing I know for sure - I'm a REALLY great dog. I love people and I have lived with two big dogs (a Great Dane and a Weimaraner). I am housetrained and super loving. I have a sweet, contagious smile. I am spayed, vaccinated and about 6 years old. I am a smart girl. I know my name and I come when I am called. I'm not the fastest dog on four legs, but I sure do make people laugh when I run and play. I'm a silly pup. I am a happy dog. I just have an upbeat, smiling personality. I can turn anyone's day around. One of my favorite things is blankets - the more, the better. I LOVE them - best invention ever! I like to be cuddled up, "as snug as a bug in a rug," is what they tell me. They also say that I might have "a bit of the Princess and the Pea personality." I'm a comfort dog. I like to be cozy. I also really enjoy toys, any kind. They're all great! I turn into a puppy again when I have dog toys. I run around with the toy in my mouth, shaking it, throwing it, recapturing it - such a blast! When there are several toys in the yard, I will go around picking up each one and taking them all to one spot where I can claim ownership of them all. I like to play with the other dogs in my foster care home. We like to chase each other and jump on each other. I am very affectionate. I will stand in one place all day if someone is petting me. Better yet, I will melt to the ground and roll onto my back so I can have my belly scratched. I like to be brushed, petted, hugged and loved - all touching is good by me. I would purr if I could. I'm also a fairly quiet dog. I don't bark unless I have something important to say. If you're looking for a ray of sunshine, an always smiling, perky best friend, then look no further. I will make someone, a very lucky someone, a perfect companion. Adoption fee: $75 and includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay and microchip.

  • Adoption and Foster Care Application

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process: Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
