Chickadee's Story...
Chickadee is a Schnauzer/Shih Tzu mix who had to be shaved due to her matted fur. We originally thought she was a Lhasa Apso mix but once she got groomed, we changed our minds. This is what her foster has to say about her: "Chickadee (or Dee) has been a joy to have around. While initially scared of everything, very quickly she realized that she is safe and we could see her personality shine through. She learned very quickly that she has to potty outside and if taken out regularly, she does not have accidents in the house. She needs patience however, since sometimes she gets too excited about the birds, squirrels, larger bugs, leaves that are moved by the wind, people and dogs walking by, that going potty may not happen right away. She will not potty when going for walks; for this reason, she needs a home with a secure yard. After watching her foster sister play with the ball, she realized that if she brings her ball back, it will get thrown again and she will get to run after it; she has the cutest way she runs and jumps on the ball. She has a lot of energy and she loves to play and run in the back yard. However, when she is done playing she will lay down near you. She wants to know at all times what you are doing; even if she is napping, if you get up and go to another room, she will follow you to see where you are. She is not fond of the crate, and will cry for a few minutes when put in her crate, but settles down and sleeps through the night. She patiently waits to be taken out of the crate in the morning. She also stays in her crate while we are at work. She is not a barker, but if the her foster sister is barking or if there is someone at the door, she joins in. She would like to play with her diva foster sister, an older Pomeranian who is spoiled and has been an only dog for most of her life, however she learned that her foster sister gets snippy with her and she stays away for the most part, without constantly bugging her (not sure how she would do with cats). She likely was never taken on walks before, and the world is so exciting and new. She is still pulling, but she knows very well what “No” means. She learned her name and most of the time she comes when called. She is not destructive and does not chew on furniture or shoes; she loves socks, and she will pick them up and walk around with them in her mouth, but does not chew them. She is just a lovable goof ball, sweet, affectionate and smart. "

Chickadee is around 1 yr old and about 10 lbs.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Chickadee, a Houston Schnauzer (Miniature)/Shih Tzu puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Schnauzer (Miniature)/Shih Tzu for sale in Houston, or seeking a Schnauzer (Miniature)/Shih Tzu puppy from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Schnauzer (Miniature)/Shih Tzu breeders who help with Schnauzer (Miniature)/Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
