My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2/12/14: Spirit Grew Up In A Car

Spirit is a darling 5 month old female boxer who was surrendered by a homeless woman who fell on hard times. The woman had a prospect of a job and housing but she was not allowed to bring Spirit along so she asked for our help. Although Spirit was covered with fleas when our foster home went to get her, she basically looked healthy and happy.

Since going to her foster home, Spirit has had a lot of adjustments to make; common household noises were all new causing her to be a bit skittish. She has been doing well on her house training and is learning to ring a bell to go outside. She has met numerous other dogs and gets along well with all of them. She does however need to learn to read the signals from other dogs when they think she is too rambunctious.

We scheduled a visit with the vet for Spirit to receive a complete exam which included all of her inoculations and a fecal test. She was given medication for parasites and scheduled for spay surgery. Her surgery was uneventful and she recovered quickly.

Spirit enjoys her toys at playtime and for teething. She has yet to chew anything she shouldn’t, except of course the leash when she wants to engage you in a game of tug of war. Spirit has spent some time with her foster mom at work around seniors and instinctively laid down beside an elderly man with a walker. Spirit’s favorite time of day appears to be bedtime, as she lets her foster parents know that she is ready to go to bed and snuggle up which is one of her favorite past times.
