My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 5/5/14!!!!!

Four-year-old Lady and Brandy were found roaming around together in northeastern AL. While they may not look alike, these girls are “sisters” in every way. Lady is a pretty purebred Golden girl who weighs about 74 pounds, and her BFF, Brandy, is a Golden/St Bernard mix weighing about the same at 79 pounds. Together, they are stunning with their coordinated coloring!

Brandy and Lady are the perfect complement to one another. Lady is a happy-go-lucky girl with an impish Golden personality. Brandy takes Lady’s antics in stride and you can almost see her shaking her head and thinking, “what a silly girl!” The girls love to run around and play together. Where ever one is, the other is sure to also be found. Take a look at the girls in their video! At their foster home on a farm in CT, they get along wonderfully with the other dogs, the cats, the goats, and even the peacocks!

Foster dad, Glenn told us, “Lady has a lovable impish streak! She is like a little kid who knows when she is about to do something wrong but can't help herself. The great part is when you say "no" to her, she stops whatever she is doing and looks at you like "I'm sorry but it was too tempting!" She is so sweet and wants so much to please you. She is the kind of dog that you will never forget and will make you laugh. She now sits and takes her cookie like a "lady." She acts like a goof but is very smart. She has taken to sitting on my lap to be loved. I just love her!

Brandy is like the perfect dog and is happy just hanging out and is so very gentle. She is a gem walking on a leash and she loves being outside and watching everything going on around her. Once in the house she lays down and it's like she isn't even there. Such an easy keeper! Every day that she is here she seems more at home and more lovable.

The both of them love each other and I can separate them for a short time but they will always start looking for each other. Lady, Brandy and my dog, Ginger, go for walks and act like 3 sisters - always together."

Recently, two of SGRR’s volunteers visited with Lady & Brandy and their foster dad to take some videos and pictures. Immediately, they fell in love with this dynamic duo. And, if they did not already have 3 dogs of their own, they would not think twice about making this pair part of their family! Jess & Shane shared. “The girls are fantastic! Lady is beautiful, a dark golden. She has a lot of energy and likes to egg Brandy on to play. Brandy is just stunning. Her coloring is gorgeous, she has beautiful eyes, and a stunning smile! She is so patient, so easy-going, just a love. She is the exact opposite of Lady, but clearly adores her sister and does not stray too far from her. If people could see Brandy in person and experience her personality, it would not take long for someone to adopt these two. She touched my heart in a very special way!”

Not too long ago Lady & Brandy’s days were numbered in a high-kill shelter in AL. But today they are in the safety of a foster home in CT while they await their heart-person, that special someone who will read their bio and fall in love with them!

The girls are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
