My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Jorge is a spectacular beauty, who has caused quite a bit of conjecture about his breed origins. He came to us recently from a large animal control facility, after he was picked up in a high traffic urban area as a homeless city stray.

Shelter experts immediately pegged Jorge is a long-haired Chihuahua mix of some sort, and that gave us a collective giggle since we don't know many 17 pound Chihuahuas. So, we started postulating on what breed input could create such a giant! Judging from Jorge's tall, leggy stance, and coloring, we guess that he has strong dose of large Pomeranian or Spitz in him.

Jorge has a beautiful, bespeckled coat with a myriad of colors blended together. He has the stance of a Pom, with a full mane, pantaloons, and a plume tail that he holds curled over his back with confidence. Jorge's coat is flat like the Long Haired Chihuahua, without the dense Pom undercoat. He needs minimal grooming. He would do well with a couple of professional groomings a year and weekly brushing.

Jorge is a real lover. And yet his shelter behavior evaluations reflected a dog who was frightened and nervous under the duress of harsh shelter life. It took Jorge a couple of days to relax and unwind after he reached foster care. Now he has completely warmed up, and has proven to be the ultimate companion lap dog.

Jorge would be a fantastic companion to a moderately active single or couple who have some rescue dog experience and perspective. Eight years old, he still has a lot of pep, and is quite the athlete. He can leap flat-footed into any lap! He loves human attention, and gives as good as he gets. Jorge is a medium energy dog, who requires a couple of brisk leash walks a day.

Jorge has excellent house manners and is nicely crate trained and house trained. Adopters should have appropriate expectations for a recently neutered male dog, and be willing to fine-tune good potty habits as Jorge transitions to his routine.

Jorge is in excellent health and has just been neutered. He has had a full dental cleaning, and is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He has been microchipped and de-wormed and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
