My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dogs need to be rehomed for many different reasons. Tilly's story isn't unusual when a guardian doesn't have the knowledge to behave as a dog's leader. Tilly, a truly gorgeous white purebred Poodle is 2 years old and 15 lbs. She was chosen to be a breeding dog - her beauty did her no favors. Tilly turned out unable to be bred and was therefore slated to be euthanized…this opportunistic kind of breeding has no heart. Tilly was rescued at the last moment by a compassionate Arkansas rescuer who saw a precious living being instead of a breeding opportunity. She brought her home after a trip to the vet where Tilly was pronounced completely healthy! She was adopted out (with every great intention) but was unfortunately mismatched with an elderly adopter who didn't have the energy or desire to work with a young dog. Tilly was rescued yet again and placed in a foster home. It was at this time that Tilly…with an exceptional foster mom…started to learn what appropriate behavior was about . The foster worked successfully to stop her tendency to growl and be snippy when forced to do scary things. Tilly learned about human leadership and her place in the pecking order of the family. And as so often occurs with kindness, consistency and clear boundaries…Tilly has become a new dog! She seems to have developed an understanding about her place and that she doesn't need to be in charge. She also is learning that cooperation brings positive outcomes. Success comes slowly but surely…and just yesterday Tilly sat happily in the car on the way to the dog park. While she didn't play (she's still learning about playing and toys) she was very appropriate with all the humans and dogs. She behaved as a very interested observer…just learning about life. Tilly is also successfully living with 2 dogs and 2 cats in her foster home…again valuable learning about positive interaction and home skills. She's come an incredibly long way and seems to happily be living among all the pets and humans. The areas that Tilly is still working on accepting are getting her eyes cleaned and getting brushed. (although she is an angel with the groomer). Tilly needs a knowledgeable person to keep her going in the right direction... additional group training classes would be great for bonding. The new Tilly that has gained trust through the leadership of her foster mom is a great little dog! We feel she would be a great match...and wonderful companion... for retirees. Tilly listens very well. Her previous owner had taken her through obedience training and she therefore knows sit, down, stay and several other commands. Tilly has also learned to love attention and really enjoys time spent with her favorite people and canines going for walks and visits to different dog-friendly spots. She comes out of her shell more each day as she's being exposed to new people and situations. Tilly had not been around other dogs or cats before living with her current foster family...now she is learning to play through the example of the dogs in her home. Rocket and Willy are attempting to show Tilly the fun of doggy-play. She's still a little unsure about it, but really wants to engage with all her heart. Tilly is just starting to play with one special toy...this is a big learning step and she engages with the enthusiasm of a new pup. We believe that Tilly would ultimately have great fun if placed in a home with other dogs or to be a participant in doggie daycare. She's learning new and positive interaction skills each day and has made huge progress in controlling fearful barking at new people...now just a bark or two.. and she's done. Tilly was initially pad- trained as a new puppy, but is successfully making the switch to outdoors. She would be a perfect companion for anyone who has the knowledge and desire to bring out the best in this stunning Poodle with consistency and clear boundaries...and through continued teaching about respect for authority. Tilly has made amazing progress in this area. She feels safest with calm and very clear people who are kind and loving.. yet consistent. Tilly is a non-shedding, hypoallergenic pup and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat cotton-soft and matt-free. Tilly has just been transported to Denver where she is being fostered Applications are currently being accepted and Meet and Greets are being set up for this exceptional and stunning adult companion.
