My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Riley! He is a 1.5 year old german shepherd/ lab mix. He was adopted from Haven Humane at 8 weeks old. He was said to be a lab/aussie mix at the time. His people are in their late 70's and Riley has them buffaloed into thinking he is a bully. He has been seen by two trainers and both agree that he is not aggressive, he is just in the wrong home. His people are absolutely wonderful but lack consistency, assertiveness, and the energy to exercise him.
Riley needs an ACTIVE and ASSERTIVE family. He lives on acreage, but is not allowed to free roam because it is not fully fenced and they are afraid he will run off. They walk him several times a day but its just not enough. Riley has a few bad habits. He is a resource guarder but when I worked with him today, I was able to take his toys away from him within 20 minutes. He is a bit fearful because of lack of socialization. He puts on a good show but once you call his bluff he calms down. He does have a few issues about strangers touching his shoulders. Once he was acclimated to me, I was able to touch him all over without incident.

Riley needs a family without children. He does great with his peoples grandchildren, but he has not been exposed to any other children. I would not be comfortable putting him in a home with children because of his resource guarding.

He currently lives with two small Lhasa Apsos. He gets along fine with them when food is not in the immediate area. He plays a bit rough because he does not know his size. I was able to have him and one of the Lhasas laying side by side receiving treats after a few stern "no's" to Riley.

Riley is HIGHLY intelligent and wants to please. He knows sit, down, and stay. The trainer he is currently seeing is using correction based training and I think positive reinforcement training/clicker training would bring better results . and will help build his confidence.

Riley is current on all vaccinations, neutered, on heartworm preventative, and is microchipped.

We are looking for a german shepherd savvy home. His personality is ALL german shepherd.
