My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our little buddy Gus was going to be euthanized at County, but we insisted on giving him another chance. They had made that decision because Gus has a leg that isn't working and can't be corrected, and it's not easy for them to find adopters willing to take on special needs animals.

This 6-year old Chihuahua dislocated his front right leg at some point. It happened so long ago that an orthopedic veterinary surgeon says that his muscles have grown to adjust his body to the injury so that (1) the issue cannot be corrected through surgery without doing him damage and (2) his leg does not need to be amputated. Gus will probably develop arthritis as he ages because his body is out of balance.

Gus doesn't seem to know that he was injured, because he goofs around like any other young dog. He's not much of a jumper, but he can run and walk without issue. He does favor his one injured leg by lifting it when he's stationary, but otherwise you won't notice a difference in him.

This dog would like a home that he can love and protect. He thinks he's a big dog and will definitely chase away the mailman. He gets along with dogs and is very curious with cats, although he doesn't give them much of a chase. Gus would do well with older kids, but he's got a pretty confident bark that may scare younger children.
