Meet Otter! He is a sweet little guy who loves people and other dogs. He also likes cats. He is a happy dog who likes to follow people around, we call that a Velcro dog. He will rub up against your leg just because he likes you and wants to get your attention. He will look up at you with his adorable puppy dog eyes. He will nuzzle you so you can give him a head scratch. He will make a great lap dog too. Otter likes to play with squeaky toys and will play ball too.. He actually will carry the ball in his mouth like he is showing off. So cute. He will engage other dogs to play with him. He needs a little training and is food motivated which will make training him easier. Food reward is very helpful. You can pull on his ears and tail and he doesn't mind. This makes him a great candidate for a family with kids. He is a high-medium energy dog. He likes to play so an active family will be a good fit. The shelter staff said he is house trained. Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:
Thorough veterinary examination
All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming
Spay/Neuter
All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.
If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.)
NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
