My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marley : 5.5 - 6 Year Old Yellow Neutered Male Lab 100 Lbs
(needs to lose ~ 10 lbs)

Hi,
My name is Marley and as you can see I am a BIG handsome guy with a beautiful dense coat. The nice lady who came to meet me from Lab Rescue says my name should be "Gentle Giant!" My first few years I was living with a family with 2 young children and then the new baby arrived. As often happens, a baby and a young dog become too much work for a family. They no longer had time to take me out for exercise. I ended up in the garage day and night and really missed my family. They decided to call Lab Rescue to find my new forever home. I was adopted to a wonderful family with five teenagers and that was great because I LOVE kids, although because of my size they need to be 8 or over (possible exceptions if they are Lab or large dog savvy kids.) I have been with my family for a little over 2 years so this was a hard decision for them as they love me immensely but they know it is the right thing to do. My Dad is traveling more for work and my Mom can't give me the lengthy walks and outings and thus can't provide the amount of activity that a big dog needs.

I can take or leave other dogs but I like to follow my person around the house. I have two favorite things in life - having my belly rubbed and being massaged! Ooh, just thinking about it gives me the wiggles! I'm warning you - go to pet me and I'm down on my back waiting for that big belly to be rubbed. When I'm out on walks and see dogs, I do a quick meet and greet sniff and then I'm ready to be on my way. I love going for my 4 walks and was getting 3 hours of walking a day until my owner was no longer able to do that. I need a little work on my leash manners but I'm smart and catch on pretty quickly. I have gained a few pounds around the middle from getting less exercise than I was used to but with a few more walks and few less treats, I'll be svelte in no time!

I sleep on my dog bed throughout the night but I've been known to sneak up on the couch after my owners go to bed or when I'm home alone, which isn't very often. Of course, I'd be happy to sleep on the bed with you if you'd let me! I am a snuggler and just want to be with my person. I can't promise you I wouldn't hog most of the bed though - no twin size beds please if you want to have any room! I'm an alert barker (not a bad thing!) when I hear someone at the front door and especially when the mail carrier comes. I am an inside dog, both day and night. I am housebroken. I am not crate trained (not do I need to be) and I ride well in the car. I would be happy being an only dog.

Although I am not obsessed with retrieving, If you throw the ball I will always drop it for a treat. I am not a water dog and do not like to swim (I know, unusual for us Labs!) I know sit, down and off. When people come to the house, I roll on my back shamelessly begging for a belly rub! I settle down nicely at home without the exuberance that some labs my age still have. I do not counter surf, am not a chewer or destructive in any way. I am not a licker which is good for someone who doesn't like those big wet sloppy kisses! I like to be close to you and will lay on (yes on, not at) your feet. My owners "free feed" me and let me graze at my bowl during the day. I am very food motivated when it comes to treats which is great for training. I have a soft mouth. I chase cats so a cat free home is a must. I am healthy, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. I am located in San Francisco.

Marley is one of those few rescued dogs who does not come with issues so whoever Lab Rescue chooses to adopt him will be very lucky. He needs someone who is strong enough to handle him on leash. We are looking for a home where someone is around most of the day to give this special boy the companionship he is used to. An active home with teenagers would be a plus. Marley is an easy dog to have around. If you are active and enjoy walking a few times a day for exercise and outings, and you are willing to make a lifetime commitment to this special boy, please call Rescue Rep Sandy at (650) 303-2436.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
