My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Lala has impressive stature! There is a majestic quality in this stunning brown eyed beauty, and a solitary sadness that seems to be longing for a loving human connection.

At age a year and a half, Lala's owners gave up on her, and recently surrendered her to a high kill animal control facility, in which she was up against the clock, to ingratiate herself with staff and volunteers and earn a spot in the adoption program, or attract the interest of rescue groups.

While Lala's behavior evaluations were good, she caught the dreaded shelter kennel cough which squashed her chances for adoption and sent her to the Euthanasia list. One of our trusted shelter contacts brought Lala's dire situation to our attention and we were grateful for the chance to find this graceful beauty her forever home.

At first glance, we assumed Lala was a powerful black Akita, due to her proud, fearless stance, and general appearance and demeanor, but on closer inspection, we see the telltale trademark purple splashes on her tongue that reveal her Chinese Chow Chow roots. Lala has a dense, short coat that requires minimal grooming, perhaps weekly brushing and professional grooming a couple times a year.

Lala is a large, robust dog weighing 60 pounds, although she has a fairly calm energy and is easy to handle on lead. As an Akita Chow mix, Lala is a powerful, yet gentle dog, who would fare well in an adult home with experienced large dog owners who understand the responsibilities involved in owning powerful breeds. Akitas and Chows, in particular, have well honed hunting and guard dog instincts, and adopters must be prepared to channel this energy into appropriate exercise and obedience work.

Lala is a sweet, loving soul who longs for a home of her own again. She would thrill the seasoned large dog lover, but would not be a good choice for a first time dog owner or family with toddlers. She could join a multi-dog home with one or two well trained, medium energy dogs, but we would not want to test her Akita instincts with cats or small animals.

Lala has not had much formal obedience work, but is eager to please and treat motivated. She has excellent house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters must have patience as Lala transitions to her new routine, and they must expect to fine tune good potty habits.

Lala is in excellent health and has been spayed. She is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella, and is microchipped and de-wormed. She has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
