My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lovable Ruthie has had a tough time in rescue! She was found roaming solo in an abandoned building, on the wrong side of the tracks, rooting through the trash. Animal Control officers transported her to the local pound, where she was excluded from the adoption program because the shelter vet found a suspicious lump on her mammary gland.

Poor Ruthie was turned down by other rescues who feared an unfavorable outcome after an expensive surgery, so she was placed on the Euthanasia list. A bright light to be extinguished way before it's time.

Well, we consider ourselves optimists, or maybe gamblers, but we wondered, "just how bad could one little old lump be?" In Ruthie's case, it was much ado about nothing! We had her lump removed, as well as the rest of the mammary glands, and had her spayed. All of Ruthie's blood work was normal, and her biopsy report indicated a simple cyst that was completely benign. A youthful eight year old, Ruthie is the picture of good health, and eager to meet her new family.

Ruthie is a charming mix of Chihuahua and Miniature Dachshund. She has the unmistakable Doxie elongated spine, and squat legs, but we see darling Chihuahua features in her cute apple face. Ruthie's short coat is beautiful chocolate brown and requires minimal grooming. Only 10 pounds, Ruthie is a tiny girl, an easy travel companion, and consummate lap dog.

Ruthie has great house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect an occasional accident as Ruthie transitions to a new home. She is in excellent health and has been spayed. All pre-surgical bloodwork was within normal values, and we have taken the guesswork out of Ruthie's health status.

Ruthie has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella, and is microchipped and de-wormed. She has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
