My basic info
Here's what the humans have to say about me:
AAE took in this big, beautiful girl in November 2013 after relinquishment by her owner. Zara's relinquishment resulted from a financial distress situation. She was thin and needing attention. Zara seems to be a gentle giant...not a draft, but a big, quiet, kind mare. We were told she was a pacer. She doesn't have a visible tattoo under her lip, but does have an illegible tattoo on her neck. She loaded like a champ when we picked her up.
Update: Zara kicked a panel between her and Smokey a few days after arrival. She fractured her splint bone and developed a seroma that was draining. Due to ongoing draining (several weeks), AAE opted to surgically repair the crushed bone and seroma. Zara is healing after surgery.
February Update: Zara had some ongoing swelling and drainage after surgery; however, it finally appears to be resolving. We haven't had drainage for a week (yayyyyy!!), and swelling is finally reducing. Zara is a super mare. She stood politely in her stall for bandage changes every 2-3 days (day after day after day), and she tolerated her stall rest like a champ. However, she has a major issue walking through smaller gates/doors (like the stall door). She doesn't walk, she bulldozes through. When asked, she tries to contain herself; sometimes she does, and sometimes she doesn't seem able. She has now had her dental.
We shaved the tattoo on her neck and tracked down a bit of her racing history. We discovered she is about 11 years old (not 8, as we were told). She was bred in Indiana, and raced as a pacer at Cal Expo.
