Darby is a one to one-and-a-half-year-old, 8-9 lb., male Papillion/Long-haired Chihuahua mix who is a very loving, happy, social, affectionate, and active little dog. He is almost instantly charming and endearing when meeting new people. He is an energetic little guy when playing but then wants to snuggle on your lap after a day of playing. It takes a few minutes for him to settle, as he is so excited to lavish you with kisses enthusiastically. He is fine in the car and can even sleep in your bed with you.
Darby LOVES other dogs. He will readily make friends and is very interested in playing with other dogs. He could not care less if his playmate is a boy, girl, big dog or small dog. He just loves to play and hang out with a buddy. In his foster home, he plays equally well with a 60 lb. Golden Retriever and an 18 lb. West Highland Terrier. Darby currently lives in a foster home with 3 dogs and one cat.
Darby is potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He is also crate-trained, and can also sleep in a small wire crate at night but prefers to sleep with the other dogs in the house or with people. He walks well on the leash, but can pull a bit if you are not using a training collar. A small harness is also an option but won’t address any pulling. Pulling should not really be a huge concern since Darby is a little dog.
The home we are seeking for Darby is a home with at least one other younger, playful dog of any size and with at least a small yard. While he has not been around children, we tend to believe that Darby would be fine in that regard, as long as the kids were old enough to understand how to be gentle, and also be mindful of the dog’s whereabouts.
Darby is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Darby, please contact Janet Cook of the Angels Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com . The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail. Please visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process and fees; thank you!
