My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET MANEN.

Dutch for man and moon, our little MANEN will have you believing in love at first sight and that you've won the moon and stars. Like his heavenly namesakes, this 4.5 year old double dapple dachshund is a constant and gentle source of light, love and comfort. He enjoys playing with other gentle dogs and like most other dachshunds, he loves to walk, play in the yard and sit near you while you work, read or watch movies. Though he is hearing and vision impaired, MANEN senses all that is around him and will joyfully return all the love you offer. If you love doxies and sitting by the light of the moon, perhaps you and MANEN can become a forever family together.

UPDATE FROM MANEN's FOSTER FAMILY:
MANEN is doing well. He is an amazing guy and has no problem navigating his surroundings even though he has limited vision and hearing. He does well on a schedule and loves to be with his people. He has learned to walk fine on a leash and loves to go for walks around the neighborhood he also loves to hang out in the backyard and check things out. He gets along with other dogs and 'barely acknowledges the cats' in the house. He is crate trained and has never had an accident in the house or his crate. Tug o war is his favorite game and likes to play with toys and chews. He would love to have a person that he could be with most of the day.

He is somewhat food or treat possessive in his crate but out of his crate takes treats and his food without an issue. Due to his vision impairment, MANEN gets a little disoriented later in the day when daylight is going away, seemingly barking at shadows, but if you touch or hold him he stops. He also barks for a little bit when put in his crate for his noon time nap or night time.

OUR CRITERIA (aka the Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give MANEN a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
