Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bear is cuddly and sweet, just like a big Teddy Bear so we could think of no better name for him than Bear. Galoot, Love Bug, Huey, those would all be just as fitting for him as well. Bear has one of the sweetest dispositions there ever was. He is truly a big boy, nearly 96 pounds worth of him, and we are fairly certain he is Mastiff and St. Bernard, most likely with German Shepherd Dog thrown in there too.
Bear LOVES people of all ages and sizes. He came from a home where there were children and got along great with them. He also gets along great with other dogs, but we have not let him play with the tinier ones at his foster home simply due to his size. He is truly a big lug and might scare the dogs that aren't used to dogs of such stature - but there's not a mean bone in his body. We did test him with a dog-savvy cat and the cat rubbed all over Bear, actually scaring Bear a bit. However, Bear may chase a cat that runs simply for the fun of it.
Bear rode wonderfully in the car and took to a crate right away. He is also very good on a leash. The only thing that Bear can be faulted for is that short fences do nothing to discourage him from going over simply to be with people. For that matter, we are looking for a home for Bear in which he will be with people and not left outside alone. (He is more than happy to spend a little time in a crate if you need to be away from the house.)
Please go to throwmeabonedogrescue.org and click on Adoption Process to read about what we need from you and find a link for the application you will need to submit if you would like to meet and potentially adopt this handsome sweetie.
All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and is found under Resources. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live.
Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
