My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Guss arrived at his foster home a little over a year ago. His spirit was broken and he literally held his head in despair. He would not look anyone in the eye and would not look at the camera to have his picture taken. We can only assume that he had led a miserable life full of neglect, pain and mistreatment - to what degree, we don't know. His foster family was determined to smother him with love, heal his pain, and give him a new lease on life. In time, he began to trust more but he still had his quirks. It still took him a bit to warm up to someone new - but once he does, he's a friend for life.

He was eventually adopted to a lovely couple on a large apple orchard in the Northeast. Everyone was ecstatic that Guss had essentially won the lottery and would enjoy the rest of his days in a peaceful environment. Unfortunately, as much as he loves his family and they love him, everyone underestimated how well Guss would adjust to a busy apple orchard. From customers to apple pickers to extended family members, Guss is not feeling safe with all of the comings and goings of a successful business. Guss' adoptive parents feel they must give him up and find a better suited home for him that is quieter with infrequent visits by strangers.

Guss would be best suited with a single person or couple that are home bodies, can take him along on walks, hikes, car rides, etc. A fenced in yard would be ideal and it would be preferable if he were an "only dog." He loves his person/people and wants to be with them. It still takes him a bit to warm up to folks and trust that he is safe. His emotional scars are deep but when you get to know Guss and love him as his foster family and adoptive family do, they can tell you that his eyes speak volumes. They are soulful - they capture your heart in an instant and reel you in. Knowing his past, you just want to hold him, love him and never let him go. He is grateful for every pat, treat and meal and in return, delivers infinite loyalty. He is a special dog looking for a special forever home. ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.
