My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Midnight 12 Year Old Black Female Non-Spayed Lab 60 Pounds

Snowball 8 Year Old Yellow Female Spayed Lab 65 Pounds

It was very hard for the owner to give up her two dogs to rescue but she knew it was the right thing to do. She recently gave birth to a premature baby who has been in the hospital for three months and will more than likely have to be in the hospital for another three plus months. She was busy before the baby arrived and now that she has a baby that is taking all of her time she has no time for the girls.

The girls love each other and are very attached - we want them to be adopted together.

Midnight

Midnight was purchased as a breeding dog but the owner never received the correct paper work so Midnight was not used as a breeding dog but she did have one litter by accident. You would never guess Midnight was 12 years old as she has plenty of energy, is in great shape and is one happy girl. The owner describes her as a very loving dog, loves to be petted, she can get excited at first but after a few minutes she will calm down. She loves to go on walks with her head in the air just sniffing things. She use to go to the dog park and interact with other dogs and she has not had any issues with other dogs. (We currently have her at our boarding facility and she plays with all dogs with no issues. We have moved her to a foster home with a few dogs and she has been growling at the fosters dogs. She is fine with other dogs out of the home environment but we feel she should be an only dog in the home.) She knows a few commands and she will listen to you when you are asking her for something: she knows sit, come, drop it and she has a very soft mouth when you are giving her treats or taking the ball from her. (She can be at times a bit hard of hearing.) She used to be walked and she is in great shape and with a little refresher course she would be an easy dog to walk on leash. She loves to go for car rides, go for a swim, is fine if you touch her all over or take anything from her and does not bark when left alone or when she sees a new person. She would be great around kids of all ages but she is a strong dog and needs to be reminded from time to time on proper manners in the home. (She has been doing a little counter surfing at the fosters home.) She has a strong prey drive and should not be in a home with cats. At the foster home Midnight is being crated at night to make sure all the dogs get along during the night and to make sure she does not snag anything off the counter. We took Midnight into or vet for a senior screen and she passed with flying colors - if we could all be this healthy at her age! She has all her shots, is microchipped, her urine culture came back fine, she is heartworm negative and her blood work was excellent.

Snowball

The owner has had Snowball since she was a puppy. She has grown up with Midnight her entire life and when you see the two of them together you can see that they are very attached to each other. Snowball has a wonderful and happy personality. She loves to go for walks, she loves to play fetch and the owner took her to basic obedience classes. She knows: sit, fetch, drop, will come when called, will walk on a leash without pulling and will try to stay in the heel position. (She can get a little wiggly.) She is always up for a car ride and like her companion she does like to swim. She use to go to the dog parks and has been around a variety of dogs and has no issues with anyone. Currently at our boarding facility she will play with other dogs with no issues and she does not have any issues with other dogs through the fence. We feel she should not be in a home with cats. She is great with children and can be in a home with kids off all ages. (She is a strong dog and if small kids are involved then it should be a dog savvy family.) Snowball is one of these Labs that can play fetch for hours! She does not bark or show signs of anxiety at the boarding facility. She has a very soft gentle mouth and you can take anything away from her. We took Snowball into or vet for a senior screen and all the test came back great. She has all her shots, is microchipped, her urine culture came back fine, she is heartworm negative and her blood work was excellent. The one thing with Snowball is that her head has some atrophy to both sides. In speaking with the owner she said she never noticed this and she said her Vet mentioned this three months ago when she took her into the Vet for her ear infection. They are located in Vacaville.

If you have the time and room for these two wonderful girls and want them to be a part of your family, please contact Rescue Rep Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
