My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 48 lbs
Variety: Bench

Meet Matty! He came from a very bad situation in a puppy mill, and he is now beginning his journey to find his Forever Home. Despite Matty's sad past, his foster family reports that he is a total sweetheart. He will flourish in a quiet, predictable home with a person or a family that can show him love and attention.

Treats? Did somebody say treats? Matty loves his treats and will sit for one. He is food motivated, so food will be a great tool for training and bonding with him. In addition, we hope that Matty's new home will have a basket of toys for him. Prior to coming to his foster home, Matty had never seen a toy or eaten a treat. Now he is addicted to both. Treats are tasty, and soft, squishy toys are a lot of fun!

Matty is crate trained, and he uses his crate as his safe place. He sleeps in his crate at night and retreats to it when he does not feel comfortable with his surroundings. We're happy to report that Matty is spending more and more time playing with toys, snacking on treats, and running around the backyard as he begins to feel more relaxed and confident. Matty is not destructive in the house, and he is a very good, respectful boy.

Because he missed out on so much in the first few years of his life, Matty would really like to live with someone who will be home and who can keep him company. He also bonds very well to other dogs and would enjoy having a companion dog, although that is not a necessary condition for his adoption. Matty is learning new things from his foster family every day. Because he did not have many experiences in his former life, each day is a step for Matty toward the good life that he deserves to live!

Matty is almost housetrained. He is catching on well and is becoming more reliable as his confidence grows. Since he can become scared easily, Matty will need a fenced-in yard. One of his favorite activities is to run around the backyard and play. He isn't the tallest dog, but he can really run and jump with the resident dogs. His foster family uses a martingale collar on Matty to ensure his safety.

Matty will be a wonderful companion for a person or family who is patient, gentle, and loving. He will be so thankful to find the people who will help and support him in his journey to become the Springer he was born to be!

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Matty.
