My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sophia!!! A Beautiful 9 year young sweetheart! Sophia is a special dog who has a very gentle soul. She's had a rough start to life and is looking for a family who will give her a home that she deserves. Sophia loves people! She is going to need a family who will give her time and be patient. She is very shy, but very loving and you can see in her eyes how gentle her soul is and how much she wants to love. Wait until you get her on a leash! This girl loves to go for a walk, and she LOVES car rides!

If you would like to meet sweet Sophia, you may contact her foster mom at katherinemanola@gmail.com and/or go to our website at www.angelsonwheels.org to complete the on-line adoption application.

Sophia came from Joplin Missouri where her owner passed away. Sophia was one of 10 dogs in the home that ended up at Animal Control after the owners passing. Sadly it's not often that senior dogs make it out of a crowded Animal Control. Angels on Wheels saw Sophia, heard about her story and we knew we had to help. We think Sophia may have never lived life as an indoor dog given the condition she was in when we got her. She certainly didn't receive any medical care given her poor teeth and coat condition when she arrived. So this might have been a lucky break for sweet Sophia. She is now being cared for by Angels on Wheels with the loving home and arms of her foster mom. Every day in her foster home Sophia makes a little progress coming out of her shell. We don't know for sure, but we think she may be deaf so for that reason she will need a guardian will always keep her on a leash when outside and/or have a fenced in yard.

We think Sophie may have been picked on by her other doggy siblings. She avoids any confrontation, and would allow other dogs to push her around. She is certainly not an alpha thus the reason she gets pushed around. Since we don't want to put Sophia in the same situation she just came from, she would be best in a home without younger dogs, or dogs that are dominant and pushy. We want Sophia to live out her years happy, and not bullied.

Sophia has been groomed, teeth cleaned and bad ones removed and her ears have been cleaned. We did a complete blood panel including Thyroid on her and all was within normal levels, her heartworm and tick test were also normal as were her x-rays. Sophia she is healthy and just needs some time and patience to come out of the shell she has lived in for so long. She was put on Proin for incontinence and has been doing great. Because many of her teeth have been removed, she will need a soft food diet preferably with no grains. She has a cyst on her tail which we biopsied and came back negative. The vet has recommended that it not be removed.

She is currently being fostered in a home in Oswego, IL with both dogs and cats and she has no issues with either, but we believe she would do best in a house with no young dogs or young children as she startles with fast movement. She weighs 40 lbs but should weigh between 30-35. Sophia needs a loving home that understands she is both deaf and lacking teeth so requires a little more TLC. Please consider giving Sophia the loving, nurturing home she deserves.

A minimum adoption donation of $150.00 helps us to recover a portion of her medical care which includes: The full blood panel (CBC Chem) including thyroid test all of which were within normal limits, 4dx test for heartworm and the tick born diseases which was negative, lab fecal test including a giarrdia test which was negative, x-rays which were fine, a dental cleaning and several teeth removing, biopsy of her cyst which was negative, given revolution for fleas and heatworm preventative and dewormed for three days with panacur, then repeated two weeks later and she is spayed, microchipped, up to date with DHPP and rabies vaccination. You will also receive a free wellness exam to one our participating vets.

We have done the best we can to evaluate her health, now we hope you will give her a 2nd chance at a good life.
