About six months ago, our rescue was called in to rescue several female dogs. One dog with puppies, one single female, and there were these two terriers there that the person who called us stated were from a previous litter that one of the females had produced. The two terriers were at least a year old at the time and all of the dogs were taken to our rescue. We named the two girls Bethany and Bonnie. They were started on their vetting requirements. At the time, they were testing heart worm positive and we went through the process of fully treating them. They were retested recently and are testing negative at this time for heart worms and we continue to have them on monthly preventative for heart worms, fleas/ticks, and parasites. The girls have always been kenneled together at the shelter or in a foster home together and just recently we posted them individually for adoption. Both girls were adopted to individual adopters fairly quickly, but things happen for a reason. As we were getting the girls ready to move to their new homes, we realized that separation for them is not an option. Even for small periods of time, the girls stress whenever the other partner is not there. They have become such a bonded pair and have only known the company of each other for their entire lives and we truly feel in our hearts that these two girls need to find a home where they can always be together. We understand that it is a tall order to find a home that wants two dogs and not just one, but the girls are small dogs and we feel their devotion and caring for each other warrants us to search for them the perfect home where they can remain together. Consider that they are only approx 22 lbs each and they are at their adult size and weight. They entertain themselves playing with each other and require so little from their human caregivers other than just love and affection. They are hardly ever more than a few feet from each other at any given time. If one does stray farther away, then the alternate dog is locating her and moving closer to her. They are just a very sweet pair of girls and we feel they deserve to stay together. We are sure that whatever they have had to endure prior to coming to our rescue warrants our time and energy to try to find the right home that wants to love them both.
Bethany is the beautiful blonde--really white dog with some touches of color on her ears. Bonnie is the black and tan with one ear that tends to stand up while the other one flops down. Neither dog appears to be more dominant than the other. Bethany seems to be the leader while Bonnie follows, but Bethany is the fragile one when Bonnie is not around. They only bark when someone new is approaching the house so the foster says they are good watch dogs. But other than alerting you to knowing that someone or something is "different" than what they are used to, they rarely bark at all. They love the outside area, but the foster is working with them on house breaking.
The girls are fully vetted, have been spayed, are up to date on vaccines and are both testing negative for heart worms. We have them being fostered in a wonderful home. They do have a fenced yard and that would probably be a preference since they love to run and play together, but need the parameter confines of a fence. They are very loving and affectionate girls, but still a little skittish with new faces. They warm up quickly, are good with children and around other dogs, but they tend to stay in their own little world of playtime and nap time with each other. The girls are not used to being on a leash so that is one reason that we feel a fenced yard would be necessary for them to exercise and especially since we know how much they enjoy the outside.
We realize that we are looking for that needle in the haystack for a suitable home for these beautiful girls. But we want to try to find just the right place that will understand this unique bond between these two wonderful dogs. We are hopeful that there is just the right home and family out there that these two girls could travel to and would be able to live the rest of their lives there just as they started life----together.
