My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cordelia: 10 yr old female declawed green eyed Dilute Calico Maine Coon

It is fortunate that this girl is so goodnatured. She was bought as a kitten and was first declawed and then given as a pet ( toy ) to four little children - all under the age of 4. !! That is a pretty intense start to a life for a little kitten. My feeling is that many folks who declaw cats consider them to be accessories to their lives - there for their own convenience.( as opposed to treasured and respected as the separate beings they are) That seems true in this case because after 10 years of being a tolerant and good family cat her owners brought home a big Malamute dog. Especially since she was declawed and therefor unable to defend herself, Cordelia did not feel safe and happy so they kept the Malamute and dropped off her at the shelter.

It is hard for middle aged cats to find new homes, so many of them do not make it out of the shelter.. How could I not say I would help her? She is a great girl and I am so pleased to have her.

Let's set up the next ten years of her life to be happier and safer ones for her.

I have seen her get along with other cats in the sense of happily ignore them but I think she would also be comfortable as the only pet in her home. I would not set her up with kittens and super active aggressive kitties and certainly no big dogs. I am not sure about little dogs..I can see her easily with an middle aged to older couple. I don't know about children. She may love grand kids, she may love being with children I have no way of knowing. I do know she just wants love and attention. She would love for her new family to really know her, pay attention to her personality, and let her feel she is loved and treasured. Who wouldn't want that.?.

She is a big girl as Maine Coons are meant to be. Yes, she could lose a pound or maybe two but most of her size is her birthright. She is, I think, a lap cat and a bed warmer. She is born to be a companion. She will follow you around and watch the odd chores you do. She likes the ritual of breakfast and dinner. She would prefer a human who is trainable.

Cordelia , also called Lily, has been FIV and FeLV tested and found to be negative. We had a blood panel done on her and all her values were healthy and normal. She is a healthy girl. She is a little depressed I think to be out of her home and to be waiting for another. There is a little sadness in her eyes. Someone will be very lucky to live with her sweet company and make her smile again.

She eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
