My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

* * * ADOPTED! * * *
Lola is a sweet and playful hound mix girl. She is a beautiful medium-sized dog weighing in at just 35 lbs. and standing ~20 inches tall at the shoulders. Lola is mostly white with a few tan patches. She has a thin build and long legs giving her an elegant, statuesque appearance. Lola and her brother, Charlie, had been at the top of the list to be euthanized at a rural KY shelter when they were taken into the safety of our rescue. Lola is now eager to find a forever home where she can finally settle down.

Lola is shy when she first meets people she doesn't know, but with a little encouragement will warm up to them. She gets along with other dogs and is also cat friendly. She's an active participant in all games that involve dogs and especially LOVES to be outside.

Lola is a curious girl and like many young dogs she has a playfully mischievous side. With proper guidance and training Lola will be a wonderful companion, but she needs a structured environment with humans that are fully prepared and committed to provide proper supervision at all times. A home where someone is home at least part of the day would be ideal. Being a young hound she has an abundance of energy and needs a positive outlet for it. Lola needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation to prevent the boredom that can lead to destructive behavior and/or excessive barking. Like most young dogs, she would benefit from some basic obedience training. She has already learned basic commands such as SIT and WAIT and is eager to work for treats. Positive reinforcement has proven to be an effective technique in training Lola as she is eager to work for treats. She is generally well-behaved when walking on a leash, and has made great strides since her arrival. Lola is crate trained, however she is still an energetic young dog she should not be crated for more than a few hours at a time.

Lola has been spayed, is current on vaccinations, and microchipped. While she's undeniably beautiful, please be realistic about ALL that's required to raise a happy, healthy, well-behaved dog BEFORE you consider adopting. Having prior "hound" experience would be best. Remember...a dog is a life-long commitment!

Important: Lola is not at a shelter where you can go to meet her. All Safe Hounds Beagles are cared for in a loving foster home. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application and be pre-approved before meeting a dog. Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be approved. We do not accept applications for specific dogs. Once an application is approved, we’ll begin a matching process—the right dog for the right home. Please visit our web page: www.safehounds.com to learn more about the adoption process and to download our adoption application.

If you are unable to adopt at this time, please consider helping us so that we may continue to help them. We have dogs with special needs and lots of hungry Beagles to feed. We are always in need of Purina ONE dog food as well as financial support to help us care for our dogs.
