My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Although our Real Good Dogs tend to be small-to-medium in size, we simply couldn't let this boy run around as a stray with no one to take care of him. He's clearly a puppy, likely only 12 - 15 weeks old as of the end of March. He's already 27 pounds and appears to be a St.Bernard mix who will definitely be growing into his great big paws! He seems to be in good health - we have already given him a set of puppy shots. He was found by a Good Samaritan in a Memphis neighborhood with no collar, identification or microchip. Efforts to find his home have gone unanswered. He will need to be microchipped and neutered as well as get another round of puppy shots as soon as age appropriate.

As a large breed dog, and as a puppy, a qualified adopted will need to have both prior breed experience and experience training a puppy. His forever companion will need to have a flexible schedule, lots of patience, and a secure, fenced in yard that will allow Thor to run and play safely as he grows. A solid history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required.

Please visit www.realgoodrescue.com to submit an electronic application if you are interested in adopting this or any other Real Good Dog.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
