Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ernie is a young, 15-inch (33 lb.) male Beagle rescued by Midwest BREW from a small rural dog pound in south-central Ohio. He was underweight and treated for parasites, but today is healthy and happy and looking for someone to love him.
He might be young, but Ernie is one cool, calm dude! He is very quiet in the house and yard, and happily spends time surveying his domain from the back deck or the front porch door. While he enjoys a gleeful romp around the yard or a playful game, he's more likely to be sniffing around and scouting out spots to bury his toys (read on!). Not easily excitable (unless there is food around), this is a confident dog of sound and steady temperament with a dignified air--wisdom even--beyond his years.
Ernie likes toys--all of them!--plush squeaker toys, tennis balls, rope toys, nylabones, chew toys, and more. He stays busy moving them one by one from room to room, and, uh, sometimes outside. On the first warm Spring day when the back door was kept open, three plush toys disappeared. After an intensive search they were found in three corners of the yard, cleverly camouflaged by leaves and grass! Currently, one fuzzy sock and one dog toy remain missing somewhere in the house, and Ernie isn't talking.
This handsome guy embodies the best of his breed: he is loving, good natured, gentle, cheerful, friendly, and smart. Ernie interacts well with other dogs. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and is learning to properly walk on a lead. Training him is fun and rewarding. Initially, he would do anything but sit when learning this command. He would dance, spin around, jump--anything but sit! But once he got it, he got it. Now he sits whenever a treat is expected. A little patience in the beginning and positive reinforcement pay off in spades with this fellow.
Ernie loves the great outdoors and the freedom to explore, so would do best in a home with a securely fenced-in yard. He also loves people, and all the attention and affection he can get, so would thrive in a home where someone could be with him during the day. Ernie is a young dog and has bursts of youthful energy, and therefore requires exercise. He will do better in a home with older kids as he may be a little jumpy sometimes.
This is a dog with so much to give, and asks for so little. He's a treasure just waiting to be found by the right family. Might that be you?
