My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Elvis! I’m a 21 year old DNA tested Female Moluccan Cockatoo and a bit of a nudist. Don’t let my lack of feathers or my famous name scare you away! I am a shy girl, so it will take some time for me to warm up to you. I used to pluck my feathers a lot and have even had surgery to repair a hole I made in my chest - I will always carry the scar there. My feathers will probably not grow back but I have not been plucking or picking at that scarred area for a long time (many years) and the vet says I am good to go! I would love to be your companion and watch what you are doing, so I can help too. There are quite a few toys in my cage and playstand that I’m learning to play with. Foster mom lets me watch cartoons but I really enjoy it when we sit on the patio outside with the sun on my feathers. Since I am a ‘too, I like to take baths often, as we are very dusty birds. Pellets are the favorite part of my diet and foster mom gives me lots of fresh fruit, veggies, grains and Birdie bread. The vet thinks that some of my feather issues may be partly due to my former diet so that’s why I am eating healthier foods now for my ‘older years.’ I have not met my foster siblings yet but I hear their voices at mealtime and when the whole flock is ready for lights out. We all love to go crazy and squawk our final goodnights to each other, but I am the most quiet of the bunch. I don’t talk much during the day but when I do, it is a very soft, little girl voice. If I am frightened, I do scream loud! After all, I am a cockatoo!! I would love to share my life with you if you are willing to be patient with me. I am a good girl and was a beloved family member until my owner got sick. Even though I’m ‘middle aged’ I have a lot of loving years to give that someone special. Won’t you consider giving me the change to let me be a part of your life?
