My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our stunning Caesar looks positively regal! This elegant puppy is only nine months old and yet stands thigh high and weighs 61 pounds. Our best guess is that Caesar is a mix of Labrador Retriever and Smooth Collie, although, as a former stray, there are no birth records.

Caesar was found abandoned in a rundown building, foraging for food, and he came willingly to City Animal Control Officers, who transported him to the City Pound where, his fate was more precarious than in his freewheeling rambling days. While shelter life may offer a roof and regular meals, there is the unthinkable downside of kennel cough and, likely euthanasia.

Caesar was one of the lucky ones who survived his 14 day "stray hold" with minimal illness. He was able to keep his wits about him in the stressful environment, and earn positive behavior ratings. He came across our radar as we toured the shelter kennels and were struck dumb by his magnificent presence and translucent, soul-stirring stare.

Caesar has adapted beautifully to foster care, and has made many new friends. He is easy to handle, generally good with other dogs, and has a joyous play vibe. Caesar loves attention, and would make a great family dog, for folks whose kids are older and respectful of animals. Caesar could easily join a multi-dog home, with calm, well socialized dogs. We have not had him around cats, but he would likely chase them in play.

As a large breed pup, Caesar needs experienced dog folks, who can troubleshoot puppy behavior, teach good house manners, and continue him on a basic obedience and leadership training regimen to foster Canine Good Citizenship. Caesar is quick study, and the training process should be a rewarding experience for all.

The key to Caesar's happiness, besides solid obedience work, is adequate exercise. He is an energetic youngster who needs a rollicking run or walk each day to blow off steam. Once he is tired and relaxed, training can begin to exercise his mind. He would make the ideal hiking or running buddy for the active person who enjoys time outdoors.

Caesar is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
