My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi friends! My name is Avery Barkley. As you can see from my pictures, I am one handsome boxer boy. My foster mom just took me to the vet and I am heartworm negative and now all up to date on my shots, so I am looking for my forever family. I weigh 45 lbs, but am still growing. The vet told mom I’m about 8 months old.

I am having a good time here at my foster home and mom says I am very sweet and get along well with everybody – not just people, but all the dogs around here and all the ones I met at the vet, too. There are no cats here, but mom thinks I’d be okay with them. I’m pretty mellow for an 8-month-old boxer puppy.

Did I say puppy? Yep. I’m still a puppy, which means I’m still learning some things. The people who had me before didn’t really know much about deafies. Oops. Did I forget to mention that? Mom says it is no big deal, so sometimes I forget about it because I feel like I am just like any other boxer pup. Anyway, they did not know much about deafies, so maybe they were scared, which nobody should be. I can learn all the same things any other dog learns. I already learned sit. I look right at mom and she tells me with her hands. I am also learning about this crate stuff. Not knowing about a crate has nothing to do with whether I hear, though. It is just something I was never taught. But I am smart, so am learning. I am also doing really well with the whole potty thing. I've had a couple accidents here, but they say that happens a lot when any dog is adjusting to a new home and everyone is getting to know one another. Mom says I am a typical boxer, who really wants to please. That makes teaching me easier.

I love to roughhouse and play with my foster siblings. And I loves balls, peanut butter kongs, and chew bones (for when I am in my crate.)

So that is about it for now. If you are interested in a handsome, sweet, smart boy like me, you'd better get over to www.goboxerrescue.com and apply. Be sure to ask for me by name.If you don't, someone else might get me first. If so, no need to worry. There are always wonderful boxers who are also looking for their forever home. You just have to do all that app process stuff because GOBR wants to make sure I – and all the other boxers they rescue – do not end up in a bad situation or back in the shelter. Oh! And remember to ask for me by name: Avery Barkley!
