My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Zuri. She is about a year old. She is a German Shepherd cross Chow Chow, which makes her a great sized dog for any living situation. She is not overly big, about 40lbs, but is big enough to handle anything you want to do with her. She is a unique black and red colouring. She is a beautiful dog with the sweetest temperament and personality. We were so lucky to be given the opportunity to foster Zuri as we are first time foster parents to this very sweet dog. She has made fostering easy!

Zuri was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by her owner. She is the sweetest dog with a lot of love to give. She wants to be by your side and comfort you as she is comforted. She deserves a family who is as devoted to her as she will be to them. She needs to belong in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where she can be confident she is in her forever home, not being lost or abandoned again.

Zuri is the most huggable dog you can meet. Zuri would do well in pretty much any home situation. She is very calm and quiet indoors. She rarely barks in the house. Most of the time you will find her cuddled up next to you. She would do well in an apartment setting as well as a condo or a house as she is so calm. Zuri enjoys all forms of exercise offered to her but she is not a dog that requires excessive running or activity. She does well with regular walks and playing in the yard. Zuri loves to be outside with us and is doing well using a gentle leader head halter on her walks.

Zuri loves to be snuggled and pet. She is happiest when she is by your side, getting pet or when she's getting belly rubs as she's right beside you. When getting pet, she immediately falls to the ground and lifts her leg for a belly rub. She can never get enough love and affection. Zuri will allow you to do anything to her if she's told she's a good dog and a couple pets accompany it. She loves to be brushed and will lie still while you brush her for any length of time. She was also perfectly behaved as I trimmed her nails and never so much as pulled a foot away. Zuri has been such a good girl during her stay with us and to top it off has been perfectly housetrained, not a single accident. She is also crate trained. She sleeps in her crate at night and stays in her crate when we are away from the house. She was unsure of going in her crate but now easily goes in with a small treat. She has been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love.

Zuri is living in a full house! She is good with our dog and has settled in nicely with her foster dog sister. She is starting to show interest in playing with her and we think she would do well in a home with another friendly, well-behaved dog, but this is not a necessity for her. Zuri usually plays with our dog when play is initiated first. Zuri would do very well being the only dog and getting all the attention to herself. Zuri also has 4 cats as her new friends. She shows interest in the cats and hasn’t quite figured out how she is supposed to play with them. For the most part she only needs the occasional reminder that she's not allowed to chase them.

Zuri is being fostered in a home with three young children (8, 6, and 4 years old). The children adore her and she loves receiving affection from them. She would do very well in a home with children. Zuri is a sweet dog, with a gentle nature, and we believe that the more love she receives the better.

Zuri is being taught basic obedience in her foster home and is attending basic obedience classes at a erputable dog school. She needs someone who will continue with her training. She has been nervous at obedience class initially, but was motivated with treats and is getting more accustomed to the environment now. She knows "sit" and is being taught to sit upon greeting people. Zuri’s new family should commit to continuing her obedience training to bring out the best in this smart dog. You will have a fantastic family dog who has all the love in the world to give. Whomever her future owners may be are very lucky people. With continued training and socialization, Zuri is going to be one amazing dog.
