Information:

I was found as a stray in Mississippi on December 26, 2013. I was found to be a sweet and lovable dog so the shelter really wanted to make sure I was safe and eventually BDRA found out about me.

I was invited to enter the Rescue on February 12, 2014, and two days later my right eye was removed due to trauma and high pressure. On February 21, I wasn’t feeling well and was admitted for observation at the vet hospital because of a possible obstruction. During exploratory surgery, it was discovered I had “pyloric stenosis” which is a stomach constriction and food couldn’t pass, but I had surgery and now that issue is resolved. I have healed from both my eye and stomach surgeries and feel so much better. During this time, I was also treated for hook worms. Then, I finally made my way to Pennsylvania to live with my foster family. Unfortunately, it was discovered that I also suffer from copper hepatopathy (storage of copper in my liver). This is probably due to a genetic disorder, and I probably had this all my life. If this condition is left untreated, I will go into liver failure. The good news is BDRA is making sure I get treated. I have seen the internist and will be starting my medication so my liver can rid itself of the excess copper. I’m already eating the prescription diet which I will have to have the rest of my life. I am also HW+ and will begin heartworm treatment as well.

I have overcome many hurdles and still have a couple more to go. Because of my medical issues, I will need a special adopter. Is that “special adopter” you? In light of all of the above, I continue to remain a sweet, lovable, cuddly fur-baby who shows no aggression with toys, food, or other animals. Although everyone thinks I am about 5 years old, I love to play with toys and bones, and I play like a puppy. I love my humans and am very affectionate towards them. When you see me, there is always a smile on my face, and my tail is constantly wagging. I am very friendly and a happy dog. No one is ever going to tell me to just lie down and be sick!!

I need some work on basic commands, leash walking and housebreaking, but that will all come in time. My foster mommy thinks I don’t know it but every day we go over the simple commands so I am hopeful that “middle aged dogs can learn new tricks”.
