My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 5/24/14!!!!!

Update 5/4/14: Maggie is learning about being a treasured pet and is so happy! Check out the new pictures of her relaxing on her bed, and sharing her Foster Sister's bed! Her new video is just in -- check out that wagging tail and how well she gets around. She is such a cutie pie!! She is just a good girl, patiently waiting for her forever family to love her.

Update 4/25/14: Maggie (formerly named Nancy, but changed by her foster mama because it suits her better) is now resting and recuperating at a foster home. She is being pampered and treated like a princess. Her foster mom tells us that Maggie is a good eater, sleeps quietly through the night, and walks nicely on a leash -- although she is not going on long leash walks at the moment, as she acclimates to living with three legs. Maggie has a crate with an open door available to her and she goes into it for a nap -- possibly because of the memory foam beds to lounge on! She has had a bath and looks and feels so much better! She is house trained and is just a good, good little girl. And Maggie will never be a counter surfer or a fence jumper! When she first met the resident dog she barked at her, but we believe she was afraid. Now the two dogs survey the yard together from the back deck. Having three legs does not stop Maggie from being a sweet companion, enjoying her walks, and loving life. She is a big heart wrapped in fur. Please consider giving her a home where she will receive the love and comfort she deserves.

4/9/14 Update: Nancy had her hind leg amputation today, and she is resting comfortably. She will be recovering at the vet clinic at least until this weekend. The clinic staff is happy to have her there with them. She is already a 'favorite dog" at the clinic! Everyone who meets her remarks about how sweet and friendly Nancy is. Please consider giving this little love bug her forever home.

Nancy's Story: Nancy is a sweet, 6-8 year old little dog and we believe she is a Golden-Corgi mix. We know she is adorable!

We received a call from an Alabama kill shelter that Nancy would be put to sleep the next day unless we could get her quickly. She was unable to use one hind leg and the shelter was full. We rushed her straight to our vet, who determined that poor Nancy's hind leg was broken in several places and that her leg cannot be saved. As sad as that sounds, people who own three-legged, or tripod, dogs have taught us that dogs really have three legs and a spare -- and that Nancy will soon be happier, pain free, and ready to begin the best years of her life. Nancy also has some hair loss that is probably due to a skin infection caused by a flea allergy.

Nancy has a courageous spirit and is ready to rock n' roll already! When our volunteer visited her, she was ready to head right out the door with her. Nancy loves people, is affectionate and sweet. We will be learning more about her in the next few days, and we will also get new pictures that show what a pretty girl she is.

Please check back for updates, and let Sunshine know if you have an interest in giving Nancy the loving home she deserves.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
