My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ranger: 8-year-old, neutered male yellow lab, 90 lbs

Ranger’s story: I have been with a wonderful family with two teenage children for the past two years, but personal and financial issues with my human caretakers are forcing us apart.

Over the past two years, my human pack leader has provided me with wonderful discipline so that I learned my place in the pack. I must admit I was incredibly wild and out-of-control before that – but those days of counter-surfing and knocking-over-kitchen-trash-cans are over. I am currently trained to stay out of the kitchen, and I even sit and wait for a release before I head to my bowl for my next meal. I am house-trained but I’ve never had the pleasure of hanging in a kennel – not sure what that would be like. Did I say that I will not destroy your house while you are gone? I don’t even destroy my own toys. Now, if you pick up a tennis ball you will have my undivided attention. Please throw it, please, please! If not, I am happy to lie nearby and chill out.

I love long walks and do very well on leash, if I may say so myself. The humans like to walk on my right and I let them do that. Even though I am a pretty darn strong dog, I don’t tug or pull on the leash. If you let me off my leash, I will probably stick close to you… and we can walk along together. By the way, please don’t let me put on any more weight – I need and want lots of exercise.

I’ve lived with and enjoy the company of other dogs. I admit to growling and barking at cats… so they best keep their distance… I just can’t shake that urge to chase them.

I do bark occasionally, particularly at strangers (the first time) or when I am left alone outside for a long period of time.

What Ranger’s GGLRR rep says: Ranger is a wonderful dog, well-trained and disciplined. Ranger’s new family should take full advantage of the outstanding training (come, sit, stay, no) that Ranger has already received.

What Lab Rescue wants for Ranger: We are looking for a home where someone is home during most of the day so Ranger will not be left alone for long hours. Multi-dog household and/or one with children would be fine, but no cats please. Ranger’s new family must be willing to commit to sticking with the established discipline and exercise routine. Continued leadership and structure to Ranger is important. Ranger is neutered and micro-chipped. He is very healthy, is on flea prevention, and will get a full checkup by a vet and updated on shots, if needed, in the next two weeks. Ranger likely requires grain-free food due to allergies (according to the current owner).

If you think Ranger is the dog you are looking for, please call Rescue Rep Dave at 415-686-4248.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
