Zeus's Story...
Zeus: 8 year-old neutered yellow Lab 85 lbs.

Zeus - is the "Father of Gods and men." Big name to live up to but I think I have done this so far! I am shocked I am looking for a new home; not sure why this keeps happening to me but I think the third time will be the charm! (I want to share my story with you so you will see that me looking for a new home has nothing to do with me Zeus; as you can see I do look like a Greek God!)

An older man purchased me from a breeder in Cotati when I was a puppy and he took great care of me. I was well socialized, went to training classes and I got plenty of exercise. After about a year all of a sudden I woke up and I was now staying at the neighbors home. Everyone was very sad and I was not sure what was happening until I heard my wonderful owner had passed away. Even though he was older he was able to get me out for regular walks, took me to training and was the leader of the pack. I am a very happy and confident dog so making the switch to a new home was very easy for me and I got a lot of attention as there was two high school kids in the home. My new home was very nice and I was a big part of the pack but then one family member moved to Southern California and took me with her. Once we landed in la la land I was delegated to the back yard. (They moved into a much smaller home and there was no room inside for me.) I still got walked each day and the kids would play ball with me but I was very lonely in the yard by myself for 8-10 hours each day. I was use to being in a home where someone was around all the time and use to being inside the home at night. I would bark when left alone this long as I wanted to make sure no one forgot about me in the yard. (I wanted to make sure I was fed and of course make sure I would be given the love and attention I deserved.) The owners could not change their work schedule so they brought me back to Northern CA and back to the neighborhood I grew up in. I love it here and I love being back inside the home. I was just starting to settle back into my old routine when I heard the kids talking that they would have to find a new home for me. They did not want to leave me with their mom as she is older now and not stable on her feet. (She needs to walk with a cane and they were afraid I would be too much of a dog for her and they did not want to risk me knocking her over.) So here I am again looking for my forever home! I am a very stable confident, happy dog but "Paws Crossed", I find my new home soon and this will be my last home as I am not sure I can keep smiling forever. This is what I can tell you about me - I love to play and I think I will never grow up as I am young at heart! (Remember I am Zeus the Greek God!) I am housebroken, I have lived with several dogs and I would get out twice a week for dog play groups. I do like to chase things so when I see little dogs run I can get excited and chase them as all I want to do is play. (I think it is fun to chase the chickens where I was living in Cotati and since I am fast I caught one of them. I did not do anything to the chicken and I was scolded for doing this but even though I want to please my leader I will probably chase chickens and cats - I just think it is a Fun thing to do.) Some little dogs can be scared of me as I am a big boy! I know many commands and I will do them right away when you ask me. I know: leave it, sit, stay, down, stop it, shake, will take treats easy from your hand, love to play fetch and I walk well on a leash with a correction collar. I love to go for car rides and I will settle right down once we are on the road! I love all people and I can be around all kids - young, old, big or small. (I do not jump on you to greet you but I am a tall boy and may knock over a small child.) I can be left alone in the home and I will not destroy anything but if I am left alone in the back yard for any length of time I will bark. (I guess all the home switching makes me feel I will be forgotten.) I am in great shape and have never had any health issues - I come from a great line of breeding Gods - oops dogs. I am currently at a boarding facility GGLRR uses and I get to play with all the dogs here and I could hear the ladies say what a nice boy I am. I am happy that I did not go to the shelter but each night before I lay my head down I say a doggie prayer to the doggie Gods I will find my new home soon. (That is all I really want is a new home that I will get exercise, get a bed to lay on inside at night and a new home that will make the forever commitment to me. If you do this I promise you I will give you much love, smiles, wags and many years of happiness.) If you have time come and see me this weekend! I am up to date on my shots, neutered, heartworm negative, passed my well check with flying colors and I am microchipped. I am located in Petaluma.

If you have the time for this happy, beautiful boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Rescue Rep Liz at 415-613-6374.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Zeus, a San Francisco Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in San Francisco, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in San Francisco.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in San Francisco already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a San Francisco breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in San Francisco paves the way for another one to be saved.
