Lucy is part lab and part shar pei. She was found as a stray in unincorporated Lake County by an AEAR volunteer. They estimate her age at three/four-years-old.

When she first came to us she had recently had puppies because she is still producing milk but no puppies were found in the area. She has old scars and bite marks on her face. It is a mystery at what caused all her injuries and neglect but clearly she had a rough life before coming to us.

She is very shy at first with new people and needs a patient and understanding owner. It could take her days or weeks to really warm up. She does well with other dogs and cats but would be best suited for an experienced dog person, just because she is so shy at first.

Lucy acts more like a shar pei than a lab. She is independent, smart, stubborn, a bit protective of her property and sensitive. So we suggest you read up on the shar pei breed befoe applying for Lucy.

Lucy's foster family has a fenced yard so she is not trained for leash walking. She would be best with a fenced in yard.

We've noticed she's less fearful of children and has actually warmed up very quickly to teenagers and children over 6 that she's met. (She hasn't met smaller children.)

For a family that appreciates saving a dog that had a rough life, likes the shar pei breed and wants to watch their dog blossom with love and care Lucy would be a great fit!

Lucy is super special and deserves a special family of her own.
