My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Fitzgerald, Fitzie to my foster mom and I have some exciting news! I am ready for you to meet me, your newest family member.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a fit, 4-6 year old spunky fella who loves treats, ear scratches, giving kisses and playing tug with my toys. And if I do say so myself, I am a handsome Dachshund Terrier mix. My foster mom keeps saying your are soooo cute. I prefer handsome but it's ok because she gives me treats.
I am obedient and learning new commands. I know sit and wait. I am working on down and shake. It is alot of fun because I get praise and treats. I did tell you I like treats, right?
Want to go for a walk? I love walks and know how to be a calm pup when I am out and about. Even when people come up to me and tell me how handsome I am and want to pet me.
I am also an excellent guard dog. You don't need an alarm with me around. I only bark when someone comes to the door or my foster sibling barks at the mailman. This is embarrassing but I bark when I hear a doorbell on the tv. It gets me every time!
I will also bark and let you know when I have to potty. I have not marked or gone potty inside my foster mom's house once. Yes, I am a good boy!
I don't mind the crate but my foster mom lets me hang out in the house while she is away. I also prefer to sleep under the bed. It is "my space". I like to hide things in my space and guard it. I don't chew them though. I prefer to chew treats!
I do guard my food and just might sneak and get my foster sibling's food when you are not watching.
I had a brief scare with the "C" word but I am all better now and with a watchful eye I will be your loving companion for a long time.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me and I hope to see you soon!

If you are interested in adopting Fitzgerald, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml. Fitzgerald 's adoption fee is $375. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Fitzgerald will go to his new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
