Meet Gage, who is spunky and loves life! He came to ESRA from a family that had several dogs but couldn't care for them all any longer. Although he spent most of his life living outdoors, Gage has adapted quickly to life as an indoor dog since he has come into our program, and he is enjoying every minute of it! Gage is well behaved, but he does prefer to sleep on the couch or bed instead of the floor. He has both the looks and temperament of a dog much younger than his seven years.
Gage enjoys the company of his canine foster brothers and sister, but he prefers being with people. Because of his energy level, however, it would be good for him to have another dog to play with. Gage doesn't show any food or toy aggression, and he pretty much keeps to himself at dinner time. Currently he sleeps in a kennel at night and stays in the kennel while his foster parents are at work during the day. He is making great progress, though, and he may soon be allowed full run of the house.
We have not been able to see how Gage interacts with smaller children or large groups of people, but we hope to expose him to both soon to see how he reacts. Gage seems to think the neighbor's cat is something to be chased. Perhaps he thinks it's a giant squirrel?
Gage walks all right on a leash, but it's obvious that he hasn't had much practice. He would love a new family who can work with him to improve.
Gage has been fully vet checked and is in good health, although he could stand to add a couple of extra pounds. This great boy is ready to find his Forever Family and share all of his Springer love!
Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.
Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Gage.
