My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh, Feta! (Yes, we went with cheeses for mama and her litter.) What a sweet journey we have been able to take with this very beautiful girl of only around one-year-old.

When we first met, and rescued, Feta she was in a shelter with her four two-week-old pups and scared to death. It was clear that she had either not had a very good experience with humans, or more likely, that she had had very little, if any, human contact up to that point. Feta would try her hardest to be invisible, and when she could not avoid human contact, she would lie on her side and literally freeze, hoping we would just go away. She had no fear aggression even though she had her pups to protect.

Slowly but surely Feta began to trust us and eventually her tail began to wag when she knew we were going to pay attention to her and her pups. (Cheese was one thing she could not resist - thus the names.)

After only five short weeks Feta now seeks out human attention and companionship. She even comes over and puts her paws on our legs or hands to get attention. There is still a touch of fear when she hears a door open and she'll seek a spot to hide but then comes right out again.

Feta is crate-trained and sleeps through the night in our house without a peep. We are still working with her being OK on lead, but she has a ways to go with that.

If you are looking for a beautiful and very intelligent girl, in body and soul, to make a part of your life, and you have the gentleness and patience to continue helping this girl be all she can be, then you might be the perfect match for her. Please go to our website, throwmeabonedogrescue.org, and click on Adoption Process. There you can read about what we need from you for pre-approval and find the link for the application you need to complete and submit.

All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and is found under Resources. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live.

Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
