My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scrappy is an 8-10 year old boxer mix gentleman. He arrived at Recycled Doggies in style by plane a little before Christmas. When Scrappy first arrived, we couldn't believe how sweet , how loving, how absolutely adorable he was. But as we got to know Scrappy and he got more comfortable in his foster home, issues related to his awful past started to become apparent. He was super protective of his toys and food and his foster family too, and acted out when he felt that these things - things he had never had before and now loved very much - were being threatened by the other dogs in his foster home. Scrappy had never been part of a family- he spent much of his life living in a plastic airline crate in a garage until he was finally rescued. He was starving for food, attention, love, and medical care. We got his medical issues treated and he is looking great now that he's been eating good food. Then we tackled the harder issues - teaching this older gentleman how to be part of a family, part of a pack of dogs, how to be a dog. Scrappy started training and started learning how to share his toys, and how to drop his toys when instructed. Then he started to learn how to meet new dogs and let them meet him. Then he moved in with our trainer so he could learn to live with other dogs and kids too. And Scrappy is blossoming! He's such a delightful dog. When you meet him and he shows you just how happy he is to meet you, your heart will melt. We were so sad when we realized the damage the years of abuse and neglect had caused, and we are so thrilled at how well he is now doing! Scrappy is finally ready to start interviewing potential forever families. His trainer loves him very much and will help make sure that Scrappy is successful in his new home. If you are interested in adopting from Recycled Doggies, please complete an adoption application by emailing us to request one recycleddoggies@gmail.com. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, dewormed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. We do not adopt outside our area, which we define as two hours drive time from downtown Cincinnati (zip code 45202 - use Google Maps to determine if you are within our area). We do not have a shelter or facility - all of our dogs live in volunteer foster homes. We introduce our dogs to potential adopters at our weekend adoption events posted on our website. If you have additional questions, please email recycleddoggies@gmail.com.
