History- A mother and her 2 puppies were confiscated due to neglect. They were seized, taken to a small rural shelter, and separated. This killed the volunteers who saw the fear and worry in their faces. Scariest time of their life and they took mom away. As soon as they were able to the rescuers in that area asked to get them out. As soon as they had told us the situation we said absolutely we would take them. Soon after they were reunited to make the drive to us in one kennel together again. They said they were all so happy to see each other-- it was just so nice to reunite them.. They came to us and all were so scared of the world- they wouldn't let us touch them and ran anytime they got the chance. Eventually they realized they were safe and started coming to us for attention, and then mom got adopted. Then the puppies got adopted but these are the type of dogs who need some time to trust someone new - so we sent them home with a crate and told the family to wait and let them come to them using treats.. Make friends and gain their trust and then they would be the best little dogs ever.. However instead they wanted to play with them immediately reached in and they snapped and were returned.. We are hoping their next adopter understands that they are super playful and happy and loving once they trust someone but that they need some time and treats so they can learn they will not be hurt by their new family..

Temperament- Very sweet and well behaved. Shy of strangers but very treat motivated. He loves to sit on the back of the couch or curl up under blankets. He loves attention and would sit in our laps for pets all day everyday however he still doesn't care for being picked up but he just squirms. He is a little more outgoing with strangers then his sister Dawn.

Energy Level- Mid to lower level energy- loves to hang out on the couch or walk around in the yard.. Once in a while he and Dawn will get the zoomies and run around the yard - but it is short lived. They prefer the couch and cuddling. But when I go outside they automatically follow..

Dogs/Cats- Great with the other dogs and cats

Housetrained- House trained - we let them out every 3-4 hours but they will also use puppy pads if they are put down for them..

This sweet boy would make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a sweet, loving little boy to join their family. He is not real needy and is happy to lie on the couch and just watch you or take a nap -- once in a while he gets needy and will ask for pets and kisses but overall he is just happy to lie on the couch next to us and hang out.. He is absolutely adorable and very sweet-- just an overall perfect little dog once you get past his fearfulness of strangers.. He and Dawn look and sound like 2 little tiny weasels when I get home or walk into the living room after I leave for a few minutes- they get so excited to see me again.. It is the cutest thing ever!!

Adoption fee $200 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need.

About Almost Home NM

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt status. It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property. We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.We do not discriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands.
We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to e-mail me.

In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals.

We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out.

If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away.
