My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

One look at this sweet little face and you know exactly what she wants. This darling girl seems to have had an unsettling start to life and all she wants is to be loved and cherished in a peaceful home.

She recently came from a neglect situation and Dakota is missing patches of fur from a prior flea infestation. She is so happy to be free of fleas and the itching gone & will be so pretty when her fur grows back. Already it is getting thick and fluffy around her neck and upper body, giving her a bit of the Schipperke look.

Dakota is super sweet. She is shy and very submissive and has a gentle personality. She craves affection and wants to be obedient. Though frightened at first in the kennel environment, she has always been sweet and kind, never nippy and never growling no matter how intimidated she was feeling.

She may not have been treated very well in her prior home since she will quickly flatten herself and tuck her head submissively when approached by someone she is not sure of. She will act like she is apologizing for existing and wants to reassure you that she is no trouble at all.

This darling little girl is so deserving of a good life and we really look forward to the day she is in her new home, feeling like a beloved pet, feeling happy and adored, and feeling confident that no one will ever hurt or neglect her again.

Dakota has been a mommy recently but she is now spayed so that she can relax and not worry about that stuff any more.

Dakota bonds very quickly to people that are kind and loving. This delicate girl prefers people with soft personalities so she would probably be happiest in a relatively quiet household. She should be perfectly fine with gentle children; we are just concerned that she might be frightened by hyper or grabby kids.

Dakota will make wonderful cuddly buddy and she will shower you with sweetness and affection. If you sit on the floor and give her some treats, she quickly warms up and want attention and snuggles, even if you are a new friend.

She is getting braver every day and her true personality shines through as soon as she is feeling comfy. She is cheerful and friendly with tail wagging like crazy in happiness when she is with people she loves and trusts. She will be such a fun little friend once she is confident in her new home.

She is good on the leash and loves to take walks.

If you rescue Dakota and give her the wonderful home and unconditional love that she never had before, this girl will pay you back so many times over. As you relax on your sofa with this little bundle of gentle sweetness cuddled in your arms and you see in her eyes how happy and contented she is, you will feel the incredible warmth and reward of having made a difference in this precious life.

Dakota is five years old and 14 pounds.

She had a female doggie companion in her prior home and she does get lonely pretty easily so she will be happiest with a new home that has someone home a lot and/or a sweet little companion to snuggle with in her new home. (If you want to adopt 2 sweeties, please ask us about the companion she came with, Adrienne).
