My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coal: 10 Year Old Black Non-Neutered Male 80 Pounds AKC Registered
Daisy: 8 Year Old Yellow Spayed Female 75 Pounds AKC Registered

We would like them to be adopted together.

Lab Rescue got a call from a friend of the owners of Daisy and Coal and wanted to see what we could do for the two dogs. She knew they were great dogs and they deserved so much more than what they were getting with their current owners. The volunteer rescue rep with Lab Rescue went to meet the dogs out in Brentwood and knew right away these two dogs would be great for the Lab rescue program.

Coal and Daisy have been with the same owner since they were 8 weeks of age. Each of them were purchased from the same breeder in the Central Valley. The owners have six children and thought each child needed their own dog. Coal and Daisy was raised in a home with children of a variety of ages and with a variety of dogs. Coal was the first one purchased as they wanted their son to hunt with him. (The son never did hunt with Coal.) Daisy was the second one purchased as they loved Coal and his temperament and got Daisy for their daughter. The other four dogs in the home are smaller dogs and are allowed to be in the home as they do not shed. Daisy & Coal started as inside dogs but as they grew and became larger dogs the owner decided that it would be best that the dogs stay outside in a 12 by 12 area. (The husband does not like dog hair in his home and the dogs shed too much!) All of the children are out of the home now, the husband has had back issues for the last four years and the dogs seldom get out of the 12 by 12 pen for any exercise or attention. The rescue rep gets several of these calls on a yearly basis and was expecting a very bad situation. When she came to the home to meet the two dogs she was pleasantly surprised at the nice condition of the back yard and the decent condition of the dogs. It does seem that Coal and Daisy have had a few litters but the owners made it seem they were all by accident and not due to any breeding operation.

Daisy's story: what a BEAUTIFUL GIRL and what a GOOD GIRL

Daisy is a very sweet, gentle, loving Lab! One bat of those eyelashes and you will fall in love with her. The condition and the temperament Daisy has pretty much goes back to her breeding. (Most Labs we evaluate that are neglected and that are banned to the back yard are in pretty bad shape and have behavioral issues.) Daisy loves to be around people and one of her favorite things is to be brushed and petted. (She especially loves tummy rubs!) When Daisy was out on a walk with the rescue rep she could care less about all the other dogs she would encounter; she was just soooo excited to be out of the yard. (She came across many dogs - big, small, nice and not so nice.) Daisy dig growl a couple of times at the friends dog who was in her space in the backyard. The owner and the friend said this never happens and it was the first time Daisy was meeting the friends dog. It seemed like Daisy was protecting her owner and protecting her space. Daisy is very food motivated and will take treats gently from your hand. She will be an easy dog to get to do anything you want as with most Labs she will do anything for a treat. Daisy has grown up with children her entire life, she was housebroken and when she is allowed in the house she does not have any accidents. Daisy does need to be walked on a correction collar and she is a bit unsure when a collar is put on her as she does not wear one on a regular basis; as Coal will chew on her collar and will eat it. (This behavior comes from boredom.) Daisy does not jump up on people when she greets them but she loves to be close to people as all she wants is love and attention. She loves to play ball and unlike Coal she does not like to swim. She loves to go for car rides and she will sit by the window and wag her tail with a smile on her face the entire time. She has not been around cats so we are not sure about her being in a home with cats. When the rescue rep asked the owner about Daisy's medical/vet background she said she had not been to a vet since she was a few years old. That she is a very healthy dog and there was no reason to take her to the vet. Lab Rescue got Daisy into the vet and she was updated on her shots, microchiped, full blood panel run, senior screen, well exam, heartworm test, she was spayed - no more puppies for Miss Daisy, we treated her ear infections and she had to have a few teeth removed. (She had a piece of a tennis ball stuck between one of her teeth and gum. It was rotting the tooth away so we had to have the tooth pulled. She now has a mouth full of clean pearly white teeth!) The vet called and said Daisy was in wonderful shape! She passed all tests and has no health issues. Coal and Daisy are located in Petaluma.

We would love for Coal and Daisy to be adopted together as they have been with each other for eight years. They are a bonded pair and spend many hours with each other. These two are the typical Labs - two happy, happy dogs no matter what life sends their way!
