My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JD: 10 Year Old Neutered Yellow Male Lab 80 Pounds

Hi I am JD.

I come from the Sacramento area and my story is a bit of a mystery but I am very thankful for the wonderful people from Golden Gate Lab Rescue that stepped in to help me.

I was found wandering the highway and a good Samaritan stopped to pick me up so I would not be hit by a car. She opened her car door and of course I ran right over as who would not want to go for a car ride and hang their head out the window and have their ears flap in the wind! (I love the car and I love to be with people!) We rode around the streets in the Sacramento area in the car for several days, I got to stay with the nice lady and her five dogs and three cats for awhile, we went for many walks up and down the neighborhoods knocking on doors, we hung posters in many locations stating lost dog please call, she took me to her vet to have me scanned for a chip in case I belonged to anyone - no luck, I sat by her side in her home while she looked through her computer for any lost dog listings and she then decided after a month to try a Lab rescue. She called her local Lab Rescue but they were full, she did not want me to go to the shelter as she knew I may not have much of a chance getting adopted since I was a senior citizen and the shelters in her area are kill shelters, so she reached out to Golden Gate Lab Rescue - in the Bay Area. Since my angel who found me trains dogs and has many dogs and cats of her own, has kids and I was a super star in her home; Golden Gate Lab Rescue was willing to take me into their program but my angel needed to drive me to the Bay Area. I woke up the next day and I was loaded up for the 2 hour car ride and off I went to this wonderful boarding facility in the Bay Area that Lab Rescue uses.

I have been at the boarding facility since Saturday and it is quite wonderful. I get to run and play with dogs or all shapes and sizes and I truly could care less about them and I am not neutered yet. (I just heard I will have this done tomorrow - yikes.) I get lots of love and attention from all the staff, I love the baths and brushing I have received and I have been a good boy in my dog run. I was hanging out in the kennel office today and this is where my story gets a bit more interesting. The nice ladies at the kennel decided to scan me for a chip again as they could not believe someone would not be looking for me; since I am such a wonderful and beautiful boy. (They scanned me and found a chip! Yeah - my family would be there soon to come and get me. I could not wait to see them. The chip company called my owners and told them I was found.) Well three days have gone by and they have not called the chip company back. Lab Rescue decided to call the chip company again and this time they gave them my vet's information and Lab Rescue was able to track down my owner. They left her a message and are waiting to hear back from her.

Well my mom just called back and I am not sure how to take the news. (I know these wonderful people will find me a GREAT home but it appears my family does not want me any longer.) My mom told Lab Rescue that she had sold me to a family as she works full time and her kids kept leaving the door open and I would walk out the door and then they would have to look for me. She did not have time to deal with this so she listed me on the internet and sold me a month ago to a family but did not have their contact information any longer. That it would be great if Lab Rescue kept me and found me a wonderful home as her kids could not keep the door shut at home. That I am a wonderful dog with no issues and have been around cats, other dogs and kids my entire life. That her and her ex-boyfriend bought me from a breeder in the Sacramento area and they have co-owned me my entire life but recently her and her boyfriend split up and she kept me. I have been an inside dog my entire life and am housetrained and would be left alone for a few hours and I would be fine. I know many commands: sit, down, shake, I love to play ball and I will take treats gently. I love to ride in the car and of course swim. I do get excited when I think I am going somewhere or if I think I may be going on a walk but I settle down after a few minutes. (Lab Rescue would suggest walking him on a correction collar - he has great energy and he is a very happy boy. You would never think he was 10 years old. He is in wonderful shape.) Lab Rescue took him to the vet and got him updated on his shots, senior screen, heartworm test, neutered and he is microchipped. The owner said he will get ear infections once in awhile. He is located in Petaluma.

If you have the time for this beautiful happy boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Rescue Rep Liz at 415-613-6374.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
