My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

4/7/14: Alfie Doesn’t Know What It’s All About

Poor Alfie was a stray....picked up by someone on the side of the road and taken to a County Animal Shelter out of our area. The Animal Control Officer said he was very friendly with people and had not been a problem with other dogs. He was also calm around the resident shelter cat, but we cannot confirm that he would be happy living in the same house with a cat. Alfie was very clean in his kennel and waited until he was given access to the outside run in the morning before relieving himself. Quite an achievement since that is many hours.

When we were asked if we could help Alfie, our first question was making sure that the local Boxer Rescue had been contacted. We were told that they did not pull dogs from this Shelter so Alfie did not have anyone else to help him. The way they described Alfie we knew we had to say “Yes”.

We made arrangements for Alfie to be brought to an Animal Hospital directly from the Shelter since this shelter does not have the resources to provide medical care. We were prepared to hear the worst but were pleasantly surprised to hear the doctor’s report. Alfie appeared to be in good health and was even parasite free including heartworms. Amazingly enough, the doctor said his teeth were even good. Although the Shelter thought Alfie’s age was about 8 years the doctor felt he was closer to 5 years. Good news all around!

We were fortunate enough to work with a local all-breed rescue group in the area of the Shelter who provided a temporary foster home for Alfie while we made arrangements to have him transported to our area. Alfie was the perfect guest. They said he was a “wonderful dog”. He enjoyed the company of their three dogs (2 females and a male – all spayed and neutered of course). They described him as being very friendly and laid back, although he is a high-energy dog who loves to run. Therefore he will need a home with a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs safely. Alfie also likes to go on furniture and sleep on his people’s bed with them at night.

Alfie has been moved to our area and is currently staying at a boarding facility which is no place for this wonderful sweet boy. Please consider fostering, fostering to adopt, or adopting Alfie so he finally knows what this has all been about…..finding him a wonderful home with people who will love him.
