My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sundance: 6 1/2 Year Old Yellow Lab / Shepherd Mix Neutered Male 90 Pounds

Hi, my name is Sundance. I’m a very smart, lovable, and playful 6 ½ year old yellow Lab mix. I’m a lot of Lab and a little shepherd – makes for a tall yellow lab. Here’s my story, I’m looking for a home – not because my current family doesn’t love or want me, it's just that they are going through a hardship right now. And because they care about me, they want what is best for me. So, they’re trying to find a good home for me to live out the rest of my years happy. They raised me from a pup of 12 weeks old, from the Auburn Animal Rescue, named me Sundance because I love to lay in the sun, and my fur is very blonde, almost white and shimmers in the sun. My human brother & sister were 10 & 13 when I was adopted, they are now teenagers. I think an ideal home for me would be one with older kids, I’m ok with kids – I just prefer to be around adults and older teens.

My typical day is, waking up early – like to eat while everyone is getting ready for work and school, go outside – take care of my business, check out the yard – maybe bark at a bird or two then head back inside to my comfy dog bed, or couch. I’m left inside most of the day, and I’m ok with that. I catch up on my sleep – find a nice sunny spot and snooze till everyone comes home. Then I get lots of love and attention, after dinner we go for a walk. I love to walk, pretty good on the leash – but you may need to remind me of whom is walking whom. After my walk, I like to sit in the yard for a bit – or feel lazy and curl up on the couch or my bed and snooze. I go to bed when everyone else is ready. I’m living with my adopted Mom and teen brother & sister right now, our family split up, and we moved from my familiar home that I’ve know all my life. So I’ve been through some changes. I’m a great as a deterrent or guard dog, I have a big bark, to ward off any strangers – but truth be known, if they presented me with a milk bone, I’d be their friend for life. I don’t mind car rides, I’m just not the type to hang my head out the window – I just lie down and relax till we get to where we’re going. I’m in excellent health, all up to date on shots. I could however really benefit from some obedience training, I have a bad habit of jumping up on new visitors – just excited to greet everyone. But I’m very smart, so I could learn new manners. I went through puppy training at 4 months, and I do know the basics like sit, lay, come, leave it – and oh yeah my favorite is “where is the light?” I have this strange fascination with light shining off objects, or flashlights – I’ll chase it for hours like a kitten – just something fun to do I guess. I like to brushed, and used to hugs & kisses. I like to play with my sister’s old stuffed animals, or Mom’s shoe – I don’t chew it, I just like to play and then lay down with them – it brings me comfort. I don’t like cats, however I did live with a yellow nape Amazon parrot for a while – yeah, and my sister had pet rats. So, I hope someone out there is looking for a very handsome yellow lab, even though I’m going on 7 yrs old, still got a lot of life left to live. I enjoy my exercise, playtime trips camping or new places to explore and at the end of the day, someone to cuddle up next to and fall into peaceful sleep.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me, I hope to meet you soon.

Love, Sundance – aka bubba, boogus

He is very healthy, current on his shots, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped, has had a current dental and has not had any health issues. Sundance is located in Livermore.

If you have a place in your home for this nice boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Rescue Rep Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
