My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Itty Bitty is a 5 year old, 5 pound Yorkshire terrier who became homeless in February when her human died suddenly. She has bonded with her foster mom but would really prefer to be an only pet in her forever home. Bitty, as she is called, is a typical yorkie--feisty, smart, and a little guard dog who guards her bed and her toys from any imaginary intruders!!! She simply adores being in the yard and sniffing around as yorkies love to sniff out vermin--they were bred as ratters in England!!!! However when called she will come to you and be ready for some cuddles. Bitty's appetite has improved since she feels safe in her foster home but she is still a bit underweight--at barely five pounds! She is a now eating dog food three times a day as she could stand to put on a half pound. Bitty's perfect home will be a family without another pet as she was used to being a cherished only pet and prefers to remain so. Bitty has never lived with children and would not be good in a family with kids, so an adult or adult couple with someone home much of the time are being sought for her new parents. (If grandkids visit she can hang out in a bedroom) She is potty pad trained and will also go outside on a leash or in the securely fenced yard. Bitty would enjoy daily walks of about 15 minutes. This is a long lived breed--she can easily live till 15 but this isn't a guarantee! Bitty is with Happy Hound Rescue, a local 501c3 nonprofit all volunteer rescue. Please read her webpage thoroughly before emailing. There are no exceptions to her adoption criteria other than the yard issue so please don't ask. This is for her benefit.Bitty is with Happy Hound Rescue, a local 501c3 nonprofit all volunteer rescue. She was already spayed but she required a heartworm test and pill, a full dental, distemper and rabies shots and a HomeAgain microchip. Her adoption fee is $350.00. She is heartworm negative and on prevention, current on vaccines and has a HomeAgain microchip
