Information:
Truman was living in South Carolina, and his owners decided they wanted to euthanize him because he was losing his sight and becoming anxious. They took him to a shelter, and the shelter reached out to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance, and BDRA brought him up to Virginia to be fostered.

It is true that Truman does have vision problems and is a little anxious, but he is also a healthy, sweet dog who loves to be loved, and who has a lot of love to give. When he is nervous, he will tremble and may go into his crate, but he has not growled, snapped or bitten here in his foster home or at our vet’s or at the groomer’s – both the vet staff and the groomer commented on his good behavior! And he is growing more comfortable by the day. He gets excited when he sees us, and sometimes even all four feet leave the floor! He loves to be held and loves to be petted, and is starting to follow us around the house. He gets along fine with our five dogs, and ignores our cat.

Truman has just been neutered and also had a dental. He did not need any extractions; he only needed a cleaning. He has a mature cataract in the left eye with pigment over the lens. He does not have a menace in the left eye but the vet feels like he may be able to see shadows. The right eye has an immature cataract, and Truman sees very well with that eye. He does have tear drainage from his eyes that stains his coat; this is not uncommon in some small breeds. He hears well. The vet in South Carolina reported a heart murmur but the two vets at our local clinic have not yet been able to detect a murmur.

Truman has not had a single accident in the house, so he is definitely housetrained. He is learning about the leash and is improving, although sometimes decides he wants to go in a certain direction and will pull. He is coming more often when he is called. He sleeps through the night in his crate; he does like his crate but, with each passing day, he likes to be out with us and with our dogs more and more.

He recently went to the groomer's. When he arrived at his foster home, his hair was very long and matted, and now he has a short hair-do for the summer! One of the photos below shows Truman with his longer hair.

Because Truman has been mistreated in his past and is a little anxious, he needs a home where there are no young children (teenagers would be fine).

Truman is only five years old, and is a small breed dog, and so he has a long life ahead of him. He is looking for someone who wants to share his life and give him all the love that he deserves.
