My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Latest update: September 2014

His new name is B.G. because his foster dad calls him “Big Guy”. He has been called Gambler, Bogey, Gizmo and now BG! We thought Gambler was too “risky” a name, but you won’t be taking a risk if you adopt this sweetheart of a dog – maybe just a risk of kisses and unconditional love! B.G. is doing great around other dogs (he is currently living with two female dogs) and has done great with older kids. He did some sleepovers where there is an 11 year old boy. We haven’t seen him with younger kids but we have no reason to believe he would not do great – except that he does get overwhelmed with a lot of action such as at a doggy day care so maybe a big family party or lots of fast moving little ones would make those cattle dog herding tendencies to come out! B.G. has done well when tested with a cat, and he is wonderful on leash. B.G. is 5 years old, a wonderful medium sized adult boy.

Besides his absolutely gorgeous looks, B.G. has other typical cattle dog traits. He tends to want to be the “fun police” if other dogs are getting rowdy in their play. In his current setting with just two dogs he is being a wonderful gentleman. In just a short time he has started to play with them. He is a doll on walks – he gets excited at first but will sit or lie down to have his leash put on, and he walks beautifully with just a couple reminders that he doesn’t have to explore every single thing. On his first walk with his new foster dad he already was ignoring traffic, barking dogs, dump trucks, etc.

B.G. LOVES attention! He’s a little bigger than a "traditional" lap dog at 55 lbs but that doesn’t seem to bother him one bit. He needs a reminder that he doesn’t need ALL the attention but he accepts this. He LOVES to be petted and this is a wonderful reinforcer for him. Right now he is not using a crate because he doesn’t need one, but he accepts one if needed. B. G. is so responsive, smart and obedient. We can’t think of too many families where he would NOT be a good match. Certainly he’d like an active home who could teach him even more and perhaps participate in doggy sports with him. The love of his human(s) is what he craves the most. He respects the fence but shows signs that he would challenge a short fence to get to his humans.

B.G. knows some commands and is working on even more. He is a smart and beautiful boy looking for a wonderful forever family who can provide love, attention and consistency.

He was a little nervous when having his nails trimmed so his new family will want to use a pro!

Earlier in 2014, B.G. was an owner surrender with one of our southern partner shelters - the family left him out alone for extended periods of time and Gambler would finally jump the fence. Who wouldn't, right? He was brought to Animal Control. Now he lives where there is a fenced yard and he doesn't challenge it as long as there is a person around. He loves spending time with his human but also loves the other dogs. He and his canine sister Macy will play rough sometimes so their dad has to tell them, "take it outside"! They happily oblige and continue to play like crazy pups!

To apply to adopt this dog, please visit our web site to access our application and learn more about adoption through Lucky Pup Rescue, www.luckypuprescue.org, or request an application via email, luckypuprescue@yahoo.com.

Please note, we do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.

Thank you for considering rescue! Gambler is being fostered in southern ME while he waits for his perfect forever family to find him!
